Despite the fact that fall had only recently arrived, the air in the forest already had a crispness to it that hinted at the coming of winter. The sounds of the forest seemed muted this morning, and there was a silence full of possibility in the air.

Suddenly the stillness of the morning was shattered with an explosion of swirling light that soon coalesced into a portal made up of light that alternated between bright and dim in a thousand different ways, each swirling together and flying apart in a vortex motion, the whole thing thrumming with energy. For a moment the portal just rested there, like a tunnel carved through space and time itself, before a massive lion, its fur a dark brown and its size larger than any natural animal, moved through with liquid grace. Pausing, the massive cat sniffed the air, eyes ears and nose alert for any sign of danger. Not a strand of fur moved as he stood stock still, making sure to canvass the woods, searching for threads with the skill of a born tracker and trained warrior.

Of course, he didn’t get to finish before a trunk sailed after him and smacked him in the side, causing the lion to snarl in irritation.

“Sorry!” came the distinctly unsorry sounding voice of a certain ninja. Before the lion could reply, however, the portal snapped shut, leaving him alone in the forest. Grumbling in a rather non-leonine fashion, the big cat sat on his haunches and closed his eyes.

‘Ms. Frost, it’s Leon. I’ve arrived safely, and await pickup. I am currently in my lion form in the arranged location.’

While he waited for the psychic to get back to him, the strange predator known as Leon set about studying the strange new world he had come to, hoping to help them save themselves from a threat they likely didn’t even know existed. It was so very different from the home he’d lost, and yet the danger facing it was the same. He would do what he could to protect it, and to redeem his own failures.

Even if Yuffie was not going to shut up about him being a sexy teacher or lion sized reading glasses for the next decade.
