[WIKIPEDIA DRAMA]

May 08, 2010 14:24

[Wikipedia has recently come under attack. Attack... from within. Thanks to pressure placed on its sponsors by a certain news corporation, Wikipedia's founder, Johnny Scotland, has gone power-mad and is now deleting any and all images that could even be vaguely construed as pornographic. This includes historical works of art, and diagrams of the ( Read more... )

What is this bullshit? I thought Wikipedia didn't censor. Figures that RLN got its hands into the "free" encyclopedia. Wasn't this what they made Conservapedia for? Wikipedia's supposed to be a place of learning. If RLN can get them to take off anything even remotely sexual in nature, what's going to stop them from taking over completely? I guess we have to keep our fingers on the edit button, reverting any changes they try and make. Personally, I'd lock pages on hot button issues like mutants, homosexuality, and abortion before they can get their grubby little hands on it. But then again, doesn't that defeat the purpose of Wikipedia? Wasn't it supposed to be a collective project, where everyone, in theory, can contribute equally? Giving one user that much power would fuck all that up. Wouldn't it?

All of those articles are semi-protected. However, that only blocks anonymous edits. All it takes to get around semi-protection is a Wikipedia account, which anyone can register.

Excerpt from the article:

Conservapedia is an English-language wiki-based Web encyclopedia project written from a Christian, American conservative viewpoint. It was started in 2006 by home school teacher Andy Schlafly, a lawyer who is the son of conservative activist Phyllis Schlafly,[3][4] to counter what he called the "liberal bias" of Wikipedia.[5][6] The project has generally received negative reactions from the mainstream media, as well as multiple prominent political and religious leaders from both ends of the political spectrum.[7][8][9] It has been criticized for bias and inaccuracies.[7][10][11] However, as of January 2010, it is somehow less prudish and whiny than Wikipedia.
