Communication that cannot be conveyed via text = 93%*
No wonder I suck so much at writing, and rule so much more via verbal (e.g, phone), and even more when in person (e.g., when giving presentations). And little wonder I use that (fortunately) dying breed of internet communication, the smileys. The only one that should stay around is the ";-)". Fenwick once showed me an article on how that particular smiley was being morphed and proposed as a new punctuation mark (which I'd vote for), but I digress.
I'm currently watching one of the best History Channel shows I've seen in the past year. It's called the "Secrets of Body Language". I've learned this stuff several times over (e.g., in NLP training), but it never hurts to review. Particularly if you, say, want to communicate with others. Like, e.g., in a job interview.
Yep, I'm a geek. Even when drinking.
* Give-or-take a few points, here's the breakdown: 58% NonVerbal; 35% Para-Verbal; 7% Verbal (the words themselves). Regardless, I've never seen a study which puts the actual words at 10% or more.
