I'm not sure that's to be regretted. In the past I've followed similar trajectories. Following typical patterns of mammalian resistance to new information, I balked at dissident HIV material, historical revisionism, and all sorts of stuff until I began examining my prejudices and weighing them against the evidence. The problem seems to come when prejudices prevent growth. The ego tries to convince us that its prejudices are correct, and that they protect us from untruth. In my experience, there is often a direct relationship between how much of a "tough sell" I am and how much prejudice I bring to the conversation. However, there are certainly points of my prejudice which aren't really up for debate. For example, I'm perfectly content with my prejudice involving homeless people (i.e., I support massive unilateral welfare intervention). I'm also content with my anti-establishmentarian prejudice. In these subjects, I'm 'open-minded' and 'opinionated', but [almost] completely unwilling to entertain orthodox counter-arguments.
