Marriage, Biometrics, & the Amazing Randi! Oh my!

I don't generally post lists of links here, but today I seem to want to. These range from infuriating, to resplendent, to intriguing, and everywhere in-between. So here ya go:

First up, Oregon allows same-sex marriages. Have I mentioned how much I love living in this great state, or how glad I am that I've moved to the furnace fueling many of the Progressive fires in the ultraliberal Eugene? In the month of Valentine's Day, this is a victory for Lovers everywhere. The world has plenty of Hate, do we really need to discourage people to Love one another as much (and often!) as possible?

Next up is the FBI wanting to map your entire physical being using biometrics, "for your 'protection'", I'm sure. I am truly astounded that given the Chris+ian heritage of this country, more people aren't up in arms about something that so clearly seems to be on its way to the whole "Mark of the Beast" thing from Revelations. I mean, it doesn't take Einstein to interpret the lines about "The Mark" being on the hands or forehead meaning... oh, say, like fingerprints and iris scans. And I thought this would be something ultraconservatives on the religious right would be quicker to pick up ;-)

Here's an interesting article re: 10 Things Environmentalists need to Learn.

Apparently there has been some hoopla up in Canada re: religious discrimination in the beauty pageant biz. It's nice to see that all but 2 sponsors pulled out after the snub of her "Wiccan" beliefs. I can't help but wonder how this story would have turned out in the US (or Europe, for that matter).

Apparently the "Amazing Randi" is withdrawing his $1 million offer. For those of you unaware, Randi has had an offer for many years that he will pay $1 million to anyone who claims to have supernatural, paranormal, mystical, psychic, or otherwise magical talents of a non-ordinary manner and can prove them to Randi and his fellow skeptics. If you've ever thought about applying for this, you've only got 2 years left to claim your prize money.

And since you've read this far, I've saved my favorite for last. Here it is: your moment of Zen.
