Dancing 101

I've been offered money to Teach others to Dance. In accordance with my former shyness over my role as a Teacher, I never really pursued any of these opportunities, although I will share the Philosophies and Ideas that I used. All of these ideas here are my own, and may not be True for you or your Experiences.

First off, Dancing is one of the most Natural and Easy things in the world to do. It's allowing ourselves to Relax and Let Go of tension that inhibits our ability to Move. The ability to Move and Control Your Space is one of the core philosophies of Dancing. The pivotal point over which you much train your Body to Balance is essentially your Dantien. Learning to bounce back and forth between staying Centered in your Dantien and "falling and recovering with style" is something else that must be considered.

The first step in Dancing is finding some music that really Moves you. Songs with really pulse-pounding Beats can help you until you can more easily find the Beat on your own. After you've found the Beat, Move to it. Become one with it. Express it. Live it. Be it.

Congratulations! You're Dancing! It's that Simple!

Having said the "short version", here's a few ideas that I used to help Inspire me:

Play. Have fun. "Dance like no one's Watching", as they say. Just remember that everyone looks stupid Dancing. If you can't Dance and you're trying, you look stupid. If you can Dance, you look incredibly awesome and cool while looking stupid. If you look overly serious, then you look seriously stupid.

Imagine that you're in a room with 3D sensors, and you are actually Playing the Music via your movements, rather than Listening to it.

Imagine the Music coming from the speakers, and flowing into you as you channel the Music through you and out via your Movements.

Learn--or at least Watch--other forms of Movement, such as lots of other Dancers, Martial Arts, etc.

Start Dancing by feeling the Beat in your core. Slowly start to sway, gradually letting it expand from you as the Rhythm guides you. Like all forms of Creativity, it can't be forced, only invited. Gradually, get up and move in larger and more committed movements, until you're clearing the Dance Floor.

Play Techno all the time, particularly when doing Physical Activities such as aerobic exercise, house cleaning, etc. You'll find yourself matching your movements to the Beat more and more as you synch up your Physical Movements with the Rhythm.

If you are going to use Chemognosis for Dancing assistance, care must be taken that you Know Thy Selves and Know Thy Substances. It does you no good to waste an otherwise great night of potential Dancing on being too sloppy drunk or tired to Dance, for example.

Realize that there are many variations to Dancing, including the continuum of physical expression. One the one end, we have Large, Intense, Showy movements. This is the most extreme form of Dancing, the most Committed, and is the most Energetic. On the other end of the continuum, we have the internal Dancing that I feel is somewhat akin to Circulation of the Microcosmic Orbit. I.e., it's basically doing Subtle Energywork Internally, without much physical movement. The next step up would be the toe-tapping, head bobbing, finger tapping, etc. The next step being the slight swaying, bouncing, movements of someone starting to become aware they are "getting into the Music". The next steps are generally initiated intentionally by a feeling of Playfulness in approach to the Dancing, and can start from "Chair Dancing"--literally, Dancing while seated, and thus mostly upper-body. Further up, we have the kind of Dancing done in front of a mirror or in a living room all alone, to the full explosions mentioned above that can bring on soaring Ecstacies on the Dance Floor.
