this is totally fun. i'm sure my girlfriend will get a bunch of these. i think i'm gonna extend it to 25 because it's more fun that way
( Read more... )
I have no idea, so I'm gonna pick at random and go with: They Might be Giants: End of the Tour Pretty Girls Make Graves: If You Hate You're Friends You're Not Alone Descendents: Maddie Weakerthans: Song from a Cat Named Virtue Death Cab: Coney Island
i never liked particle man too much, either. i always liked the quirkier songs, like whistling in the dark, and birdhouse in your soul is my favorite off of that record. i had to see past flood, they might be giants were the first band i really found out about on my own. i think i've seen them live about 6 or 7 times.
Flood is a great album, but mention it to anyone and 90% of them will say "Yeah! Particle Man!" or "Istanbul!" TMBG is one of those bands I always claimed as mine, so it annoys the piss out of me when people think of those two songs and have no interest in any of the others. I'm also thay way with Monty Python and the Quest for the Holy Grail. Until you can tell me a little bit about, say, the dead bishop on the landing, I just don't want to hear about the Knights who Say Ni. :)
So anyway....not Ana Ng. (They do a great rendition of it on Severe Tire Damage.) What about I've got a Match?
i love i've got a match, but i must say that my favorite is a little bit quirkier.
and i totally agree. i went to my first tmbg as an elitist and i ran into some kids in line who only knew about the band from tiny toons, and were eagerly awaiting to hear particle man played live. i wanted to hear we want a rock. neither of us got our wish, because they were on the john henry tour and played a ton of stuff from that record.
I'm gonna keep mulling this over, because I could probably list the tracks until I got it :) But where's the fun in that? I'll just have to think about the songs you've turned down and see what floats to the surface.
But here's a thought on Weezer, a total shot in the dark: El Scorcho
weezer's song is from the blue album, my personal favorite. i'm not selling out to pinkerton after everyone decided that it was their favorite since some critic decided that it immaculate. and the tmbg song has lots and lots of bari sax, and a glockenspiel. you've been trying so hard, that if this doesn't tell you, i guess you may have never heard the song.

Weakerthans: Song from a Cat Named Virtue

and you've got the right weakerthans album.

And as for Descendents...When I Get Old.
I'm gonna have to think about my next guess for the Weakerthans...that song's definitely my favorite so it's hard to think past it right now ;)
