take a stand against suicide.

i got this message on facebook from a group i'm a part of, and i thought i'd share it with you guys. it may be of interest to some, especially those that reside in Canada. :

There are people in the world that experience depression and mental illness; these people need to be protected by law. Canadian MP Harold Albrecht is putting forward Motion 388 to ensure that youth are protected.

Youth in Canada are just as vulnerable as youth around the world. There are youth that are being encouraged towards suicide by online predators, and these predators are not facing any penalties because the internet is anonymous and Canadian laws are 'gray' in this area.

Motion 388 wants to change this, and suggests that the Canadian Criminal Code should be updated to reflect the new 21st century broadband access, and prosecute those who encourage others towards suicide. Also, Motion 388 suggests that the Canadian government should fund education programs that will empower people who experience depression and mentall illness, and Canada's vulnerable youth, to be protected from online predators and find appropriate community resources - like us, YLC.
