FanFic100 Mikey/Frank: "Soon"

Author's Notes: For the fanfic100 challenge. More or less a prequel to "Violets Bloom".
"Are you ever coming back?" Frank asks, the same question he always asks when he calls.
"Of course I'm going to visit," Mikey answers, the same answer he always gives when Frank asks that question.
"Well, when? I mean... when are you coming home?"
"Someday."
"Someday soon?"
"Yes, soon."
"When though? Like, when do you think 'soon' is?"
"Frank..." Mikey sighs. "I don't know, Frank. Just soon. Look, I gotta go now. Someone's at the door."
"Okay." Frank sounds terribly crestfallen on the other end and Mikey winces. He hates this part of their phone conversations. There's always this awkwardness hanging in the air, and it's not just the static.
"Okay... well, uh... bye."
"I miss you."
Mikey pauses. He hates it when Frank tells him that. "G'bye, Frankie." He hangs up, feeling a horrid wretch for just leaving Frank hanging like that, for lying to him; there's never anyone at the door. He misses Frank too, but...
