Eyes On You
She had always been in love with him. She loved him even when she knew she was only one of his many girlfriends, loved him when she knew that their relationship was only a fling, with no strings attached. She had loved him from the very moment she set eyes on him, the tall suave stranger in his black Armani suit, his top buttons undone, dark brown locks falling messily into a set of piercing eyes. Eyes that never left a certain someone, eyes that were filled with true sincerity and love reserved only for that one person, and that someone wasn’t and never will be her, that she knew. But still she hoped and dreamed that one day he would finally open his eyes and see her and only her. Even when he kissed her and touched her and told her that she was beautiful, she knew his eyes had never left him.
For years and years, even before she knew him, even before they got together, he only had eyes for him, that loud, arrogant boy with that oh-so-annoying laughter and squeaky voice, she thought spitefully, always striding into the room with unmasked confidence, loitering around amongst people of authority as though he were of the same status as they. The party was only for the elite, or so she had been told, and she scornfully wondered how he had gotten an invite, that cheap commoner. She wouldn’t have been surprised if he had invited himself, though to her annoyance no one else seemed to mind, especially that one man who was sitting next her, calmly sipping wine and staring openly at the newcomer.
She hated him, that boisterous boy, because everyone else adored him. She was convinced that only she saw through the innocent mask of Kim Junsu. She could already see her lover’s eyes following the young boy who was wandering aimlessly around the room, shamelessly cutting into conversations and helping himself to fruit punch.
“Chunnie-ah…” she said, in what she hoped was a seductive voice, slipping her hand into his, sneakily sliding her leg up his underneath the bar, hoping to steer his attention away from Kim Junsu. She wanted to scream when he paid her no heed, still clearly very much distracted by the other’s presence in the room, but she kept her cool, after all she was a well respected woman with class, unlike the poor slut in his worn out suit and cheap bowtie.
“Baby…” she half-whined, pouting and shaking his arm lightly, almost desperate as she noticed Kim Junsu sauntering his way towards them, his mass of shocking red hair standing out amongst the crowd. She noticed her lover hesitating to tear his eyes away, only turning towards her a second later with a confused “huh?” But before she had a chance to speak, his attention is once again stolen as the said boy approached them, grinning widely and taking a seat beside them.
Park Yoochun, whose eyes had nearly always been vacant or chillingly cold, instantly lights up like the summer sun, those intense dark orbs immediately filled with warmth and unexplainable tenderness. He looked at Kim Junsu like he was the most precious thing in the world, and she, in her million won low cut dress and sparkling diamonds, as much as she hated it, felt herself shrinking back and feeling inferior to him.
“Hey Yoochunnie!” Kim Junsu greeted cheerily, and she cringed when he reached for Yoochun’s glass and chugged down the remaining wine, making a face at the bitter taste. She noticed how his lips lingered on the rim a second longer than they should, how the man beside her laughed, elbow propped on the table, chin resting in his hand, smiling and staring blissfully at the younger man who was talking animatedly to him. And there she sat, alone and forgotten, her insides burning with anger and jealousy and humiliation, hands curled into fist aching to strike at the boy with the slanted eyes.
She was angry and very much irritated that the younger man could get the great Park Yoochun’s full undivided attention just by striding into the room. She hated his cocky attitude, always acting oblivious towards Yoochun’s open stares. She, and any girl would kill to have Park Yoochun look at them that way. She looked at the two of them, the undeniable chemistry between them built angry tears in her eyes. They were so obvious, flirting with each other like there was no tomorrow, like she didn't exist.
Best friends. That was what they claimed to be. She eyed their entwined fingers in disgust, Yoochun caressing Kim Junsu’s hand with his thumb absentmindedly as they continued on their conversation. No one ever questioned their relationship. For as long as anyone could remember they were best friends, inseparable, and open displays of affection were passed off as friendly gestures. And after all, it was no secret that Park Yoochun was a womanizer. He was a sweet talker, a ladies’ man, born with Casanova blood in his veins.
But she knew better. She knew that Yoochun was only with her and his many girlfriends because he thought he could never have Kim Junsu. She had so often seen the love, the passion, the want in his eyes whenever Kim Junsu was around. She had heard him mutter his name in his sleep, the longing in his voice made her nauseas. It was all so wrong. She strongly believed that love was only between a man and a woman, and she was determined to make Yoochun see that too, for she knew he was merely confused, having fallen under the wicked spell of one Kim Junsu.
She snaked her arms possessively around Yoochun from behind, clinging onto his lean back, resting her chin on his broad shoulders. His cologne intoxicated her, filling her with want and fueled her intensifying love for him. She smirked in satisfactory when she caught the glimmer of hurt in Kim Junsu’s eyes as he locked eyes with her, finally noticing her presence. She knew. She had often prided herself in being observant, therefore seeing things others could not, for most people were so often foolishly blinded by ignorance and naivety. Oh how she enjoyed watching the slight tremble in Kim Junsu’s lips every time Yoochun held her, or the invisible unshed tears behind those brown eyes whenever Yoochun kissed her. Kim Junsu fooled everyone with his carefree laughter and often indifferent behavior, but oh no he couldn’t fool her.
She watched as the hint of emotion in his eyes vanish just as soon as they appeared, and the boy’s face immediately breaks into his trademark sunshine smile. “Hey GaHee noona! Sorry I didn’t see you earlier. How have you been?”
“I’m fine, Junsu-ah,” she faked a honeyed smile. “It’s so nice to see you here.”
“Yeah it’s been a while,” he replied in his usual cheery manner.
Sick bastard, she scoffed mentally. Turning back towards Yoochun, she puckered her glossy pink lips into a pout. “Oppa, I’m tired. Can we leave?” She leaned in closer to brush her lips against his earlobe, and her smile widened when she felt him slip his arm around her tiny waist.
Still, she could see that Yoochun was reluctant to leave. Hiding the irritation in her voice, she tilts her head to a side in what she hoped was a cute and suggestive manner, letting her gorgeous dark curls fall over the side of her face. “Please oppa?”
“Alright baby,” he finally gave in, pecking her on the lips. He turned towards Junsu, and fondly ruffled his red spikes, earning a groan from the younger man. “I’ll see you around, Su-ah.” The raw emotion in his eyes, the gentleness of his touch was still evident as he bid goodbye to his best friend, and then they finally dimmed when the couple turned around to leave, his arm around her slender waist as they headed for the exit.
She turned around one last time before they made it to the door, feeling smug at the pitiful sight of Kim Junsu drowning down a glass of liquor all alone. He still had that slight smile on his lips, and to everyone else he appeared to be someone enjoying a drink by himself. But only she could see the sadness behind that smile, the dejected look on his face, his unshed tears, his bleeding heart and silently, she laughed. Park Yoochun may have eyes only for him now, but that was all going to change soon, she promised herself. She would wake him up, and she was confident that he will love her like he has never loved anyone else before. She would be his world, and he would be hers.
For a moment the boy with the red hair looked up from his drink and caught her gaze. She raised a delicate eyebrow in his direction and smirked in victory, tightening her hold around her lover.
I love him more than you ever will Kim Junsu, she thought, her gaze not wavering. She turned back to smile at her charming lover, and together they stepped out into the chilly night.
Park Yoochun is mine.
