In 1963, Frederick Fellini directed his critically acclaimed film 8 ½. Shot in black and white, Fellini’s metafictional story revolves around a mentally unstable Italian director. In the film, the strains of being an artist prove to be too great for director Guido Anselmi, and he subsequently suffers a nervous breakdown before checking himself into a luxurious mountain sanitarium where he encounters a zany cast of characters. The stark contrasts between black and white really lend to the film’s many complex themes; themes which include: sexuality, love, deceit, loss, madness, and the surreal nature of dreams. Different lighting techniques are used throughout the film to connote mood. For instance, shadows are employed to illustrate Guido’s despair, while bright white high-key lighting is used as a motif to signify a sense of energetic mania. 8 ½ contains many elements of Film Noir, but with its brightly lit ethereal sequences it is a completely original and experimental film.
College has started to become a real drag. I'm not even done with Junior College, and I feel like I could just SNAP at any given moment. If my Micro Economics professor makes me memorize another formula, I'm gonna SNAP. If I don't get an A in my remedial math course, I'll snap.
Bonus Rip Off graffiti from the main king. This was painted at a skatepark at night. Just noticed the inline on the star's 3D is missing, very toy.
Still working on the Fighting Cocks mural. I draw one line everyday, and take breaks on the weekend. Trading this art for $100 in tacos. Really nervous I'll fuck it up when I airbrush it with transparent acrylics. The outline is oil based sharpie paint pen so ftw.
