So I freaking suck at explaining what I do or don't like about music. if I could explain it better I might find more shit I like... I'm very picky. So in case anyone cares, i've constructed my own review of Manson's new album, Eat Me Drink Me, by reading over 500 other reviews (yes, its my day off alone) and taking pieces from random ones of which I agree with the most. It's been fun for me, because I find it amusing that it comes out coherent. I'm going to post it here, in RAINBOOOW colors, a separate color for every different reviewer.
Marilyn Manson- Eat Me Drink Me review
Usually after one listen I'm hooked when it comes to a few bands. I've only listened to it once, and on first impression it's "good album, but no stand out tracks": I always like the faster/"harder" songs best, and this one doesn't have any. A lot of the songs start off interestingly enough, but by the end, I just don't like the direction pretty much all of them take. It sounds just like all the stuff on the radio now, only the singer is drunk. he seems to have sung the whole thing slightly "higher" than usual, with the exception of one or two tracks neae th end. Manson said this album was written and recorded in a matter of days, and it sounds like it. No hit potential from any of these tunes. That's not to say the album isn't awesome. It is. The guitar solos don't bother me - on the contrary, I like them. What's making me hesitate is that the industrial sound which attracted me to Manson is pretty much buried. i was also expecting something a bit more heavyer. it was really flat sounding and bland. Little seems to stand out at all. Those that do would be Just A Car Crash Away (fucking teary-eyed audio orgasm, that; there's something unmistakably timeless about this song) I can't fucking stop listening to Eat Me, Drink Me. It's fucking awesome! OLDER SONGS LIKE "Spade" had a sort of... I don't know make a metaphor out of it any other way than saying it was wet, whereas these are dry. That sounds fucking stupid, but that's how I hear songs. "Spade" was too 'lush' for this album, I think. It pains me to say it, but I found this whole album kind of boring, which is a first...I've loved every album since Manson began........None of the songs gave me that feeling that Manson's music gives me. Technically, it's more advanced than anything prior, mostly because of the amazing guitar work...but if often gets lost in "solo overload." I don't expect my initial reaction to change, most of the songs seemed to drag on and on for me.
Tell me thats not kind of even slightly cool??? ( I NEED VALIDATION FOR SITTING HERE LIKE AN IDIOT FOR HOURS READING REVIEWS!) ha
Truthfully, the few songs I like on the Manson album are incredible. the other ones are just blah.
After trying to like the album for awhile, I played some MSI and was amazed by how much better it sounded than usual.
I found out what's been eating the baby ducks. River otters. There are 4 that live in the pond/lake! its crazy.
I like the Mad Caddies because they have a lot of burlesque styled music. Pretty sweet.
