Late October miss Hello Kitty came to celebrate her 40th in Los Angeles. Being a Sanrio child, I had to go check it out. I was supposed to bring my husband but when he finally realised what he was going to, he changed his mind. Hehe.
My fave bits were people, women AND men (and of course kids) dressed up in their own Sanrio fashion. One of the heads of Sanrio was there and he got himself a temporary looking tattoo on his neck, full gangster style type that said, "Hug Life."
The Japanese American National Museum was my first stop, to see all the Hello Kitty artifacts, Sanrio goodies, and of course artwork. I think this was the best part of the convention (apart from the shopping) because I got to relive my childhood. They even had the bubble gum and candy and it was an interactive instillation that you could smell. Sigh.
I scored a vintage (shoe) bag, which I may use as a purse at one point. I'm still considering that. Also a few bejeweled presents and some Hello Kitty kitchen paraphernalia -which I think are the most useful and practical purchases at this point in my life. There were a few things I missed because of the ridiculously long wait times at some of the shops so I was really happy to see the rest of the cute stuff at local Sanrio shops recently. Yay!
