my one

I mentioned awhile ago that it was my husband's birthday.
Since his father passed away earlier this year, I figured he'd enjoy the company of friends in a simple gathering. I invited a handful of his good friends to the flat, where I decorated a bit and put together some Romanian comestibles.

It was nice to get to see some of the people that were at our wedding as we don't see them often enough.
Everybody lives quite a distance from one another and everyone is so busy. Dan was pleased to see everyone that came and he's just as glad as I was that they made it.

The best bit, in my opinion, was plotting the whole thing.
Dan was not working that day and I really didn't know how to get him out of the house without getting him to do chores -which could lead him to being out too long because he'll end up grabbing a bite, a beer and dessert. At first, I asked one of my friends to see if they can ask Dan to help them out with something, but later on I thought the timing could get tricky so I scrapped that.
Then I figured to ask my friend if she could ring me and I'd make something up like she's distraught with valentine's day coming up and need him to get out of the house for a bit whilst I console her. My friend was all for it so we decided on that. However, I decided to not use that plan as well.

While I thought about what to do, I started decorating the house. My excuse was that I was testing some displays that I will be using for work soon. He totally bought it, no questions asked and I could hardly keep a straight face!

Eventually, I decided to get him out of the house the good old fashioned way..."Oh, it's lovely out. You should go out for a walk, or better yet, ride your bike to your fave pub and have a beer." Then I told him, he should be back in an hour as I'll have a proper lunch ready. I often complain about being hungry and we always talk about how I appreciate it much more if he eats the food I cook, hence, the whole plan was perfect!

So off he went to grab a beer, meanwhile his friends smsed me that they were almost here. Quite a photo finish timing really! When they arrived, here's Dan sending me photos of the pubs new menu. I tell him to have an appetizer with his beer and then head back as food will be ready soon. Fifteen minutes later, I sms him that I'm starving -which he knows I mean business and will be a grouchy monster if I don't get to eat immediately. While I was hungry, I was more excited to surprise him!

Dan arrived not too long after that and he thought I had invited some people who were visiting, until he saw everyone. He had a laugh when he started piecing things together. He wondered why one of his friends called him out of the blue to go shooting. He also realised that my "displays for work" weren't what I said they were. And he kept going on and on about how I kept going on and on about how lovely it was out.
I really enjoyed planning his party just as much as I enjoyed the cake! I was exhausted the next day but it was all worth it.
