Where to begin.........I graduated on Sunday January 7th, interviewed with four Lockheed Martin managers on Thursday January 11th and on the following Tuesday I got a phone call saying "Congratulations! You have been offered a position with Lockheed Martin..." and I couldn't have been happier. I was offered three positions within the company as a software engineer. One was in Manassas, VA, one in Gaithersburg, MD and a third in Herndon, VA. After careful consideration of several factors I decided to take the one in Herndon. The main reasons for my decision were: the Herndon area is the nicest area in terms of cleanliness and safety. While it is the most expensive, I figured it is worth the extra money to feel safe in my new home. Maybe I'm a typical paranoid suburban white kid but whatever the reason, I have to feel safe. Secondly, the position in Herndon was the only one offering a top secret clearance sponsorship. Third, they were willing to let me start immediately while the background check got underway. Another big factor was that I met personally with the hiring manager when I went to VA for the interviews and I got a good vibe from him. He even called me from his home to see if I had any questions about the position he had offered me. The guy from Manassas was almost unreachable and while I started out liking that job (nuclear subs), I didn't like how unreachable he was and changed my mind. I found a great apartment just 3.7 miles from my office and I can't wait to move there and start my new career. Diana graduates in Spring and is planning on moving down there sometime this Spring, maybe even before she graduates if we get lucky. It's a two bedroom place so that all of my friends can come visit whenever. Oh, and my friends and family threw me a surprise party for graduation and I got wind of it ahead of time so I took an old t-shirt and wrote "Not Surprised" with an arrow pointing to my head and wore it under my jacket. Talk about a hostile crowd, most people laughed but the ones who organized the party were NOT smiling. There's a video. That about wraps up the last two months. Probably be writing the next one from Virginia.
