The moment he starts to babble about the TARDIS she knows she’s in for a yawn fest. Instead of dealing with it and waiting him out, she decides to cut him short. “I get it,” she tells him. “You’re overcompensating for… you know.”

He stops mid-word. His mouth gapes open. His brows knit together and he stares at her. “I’m what?”

“Overcompensating. I mean, look at her. Your ship isn’t the most brilliant out there, nice as she is.” She shrugs. “You meet one man with a shinier ship and suddenly you feel the need to defend yours and play her up to me.”

“I… what… I…” The Doctor half glares at her and half stares at her in bafflement.

“You don’t need to do any of that,” she teases him. “The TARDIS will beat any ship for me. What other ship will provide me with the bedroom of my dreams and all the closet space and shoes I could want?”

Rather than the reaction she’d expected, the Doctor flips out. “She… you… what?!”

“Shooooes,” Donna spells out for him.

He cringes, a movement that jolts his entire body. “The TARDIS travels time and space and to you, the best thing about her is shooooes?!”

She shrugs. “Whatever. You can get all defensive while I go figure out what to wear on our next trip out!” She bounds away, happy to escape the Doctor’s hurt puppy dog stare.

“But… she travels space and time!” The Doctor exclaims to the empty room. He pats the TARDIS’ console. “I’m sure she’s just kidding,” he murmurs to it. “I mean, shoes! Really.”
