Simple Coloring Tut

Made in PSP9. I'm sure it's pretty translatable.

To get coloring something like this:

We'll be making this:
I felt like something fresh. :-D

We crop our pic:

down to something with a 120 height and paste it in our 100X100 Raster box.

We sharpen it and apply RGB Curves to it. For those who don't know how to use curves, you right click your image layer in the layers palette box, New Adjustment Layer>Curves and pull up the line until you get a level of brightness you like.

You get this:

We then create a new layer, pull it to the top of everything and fill it with #454c1e:

We set it via the layers palette box to "Overlay":

We then right click that Green layer, head to New Adjustment Layer>Hue/Saturation/Lightness, and pull the desaturation tab to about 83.

We then set the Desaturated layer to "Soft Light" via the layers palette box. We then right click the Desaturated layer and repeat the Curve-ing process to lighten it just a little bit.

Now, right click your layer with the curves in it, and Desaturate it to about 80. Set it to "Screen".

Right click that desaturated layer, New Adjustment Layer>Color Balance>General and select "Soft Light" from the drop down box.

I added this nice mask by domeofstars cause I didn't want to leave it blank. Set it to "Screen"

Hope that was simple. :-)
