These were terrific little AUs for Chistmas 1997. Beautifully conceived, well-executed. Even a bad case of the flu was better than what was waiting for her in San Diego, and Mulder makes a very handsome nurse. I can totally see Scully working at a battered women's shelter for the holidays. And it goes without saying that a cancelled flight+great sex=a very merry Christmas.

Of course, I now wonder what was happening to Emily in SD without Scully there to intervene. God, I am such a downer.

Believe me, the same thought was in my head. In canon, Emily may have died because of Scully's intervention. But without it, she might've been "retrieved" by the Syndicate and tortured for years to come. This I do know: without Emily, we wouldn't have had "Arizona Highways," and that would've been a loss ;)

Thanks for the kind review, and for organizing this whole shebang!

You're welcome.

Until the emergency pinch hit, this was mostly a lot of fun to do. Even the writing the story was fun (though hard for me) because I was working with tree on it. I must like doing this, because I am just beginning (with tree) to organize a mini-fest to celebrate Scully's 50th birthday in February.

You are right: without "Emily" we wouldn't have had "Arizona Highways," which remains my favorite XF novel.

Hmmm...there was originally meant to be a "And One Time She Did" section to this fic, so perhaps I'll have it ready for Scullyday. 50?! How is that possible...

And I'm now old enough that 50 is looking pretty good in retrospect...

Yes, I think you'll have enough time to get it ready. February 10-23, with her birthday an open-free-for-all.
