This is great, believable in its bleakness.

They got where they were going.

I read "Left Standing" not that long ago. I think this prequel stands alone but works better with it.

One thing I will mention: Moose and Squirrel could not have been Yeti hunting in Idaho, as the Yeti are said to inhabit the Himalayan region of Nepal and Tibet.
