I liked the little inside jokes at the beginning when Scully looks at the dime & penny, Queequeg's collar, and the keychain. Actually this whole episode is sort of full of inside jokes, with Mary Sue Leyla Harrison constantly bringing up M&S's past cases.

Strangely, I don't really mind that Scully gave the keychain to Doggett. She said it represented teamwork and partnership, and she was just trying to show her appreciation for all the work he's done on the X-Files over the last year. Seems appropriate, especially given how guilty she feels for going on maternity leave and leaving him to fend for himself.

I'm not quite as annoyed by Leyla Harrison as many of you seem to be, but she is kind of intense. I just love that they created a character in honor of the actual Leyla Harrison, whose fic I had been a fan of prior to her death. I think that was a really neat thing for the writers/producers to do for the fans.

But yeah, the plot of this episode is ridiculously boring.

Lamaze class! Mulder watches Oprah! They're so married. (But it bugs me that this is apparently the first time Mulder has inquired about the sex of the baby. He wasn't curious until now?)

I love Mulder impersonating Kersh and getting involved in the case. If things wouldn't have self-destructed so quickly after the baby was born and Mulder Had To Leave, this would've been an awesome way to do the ninth season - Doggett (and Reyes, if you prefer) in charge of the X-Files, Mulder consulting/helping out in an unofficial capacity, which gives him the freedom to break rules and not suffer the consequences. And Scully takes care of Baby and does the occasional autopsy or medical consultation, blah blah. It could've worked...?

I've actually never been much of a fan of the very last scene, with M&S arguing about the spaceship from FTF. I think it's hilarious that when given the chance to speak face to face with her idols, Leyla chose to ask them *that* question out of everything she could've asked, lol. But M&S's banter feels kind of awkward to me for some reason, like they were trying to do improv or something and it just came out kind of fake. I don't know, it's hard to explain. They almost seem a little out of character, Scully especially.

I agree, I understand that she wants to thank him for all he's done and for being a good partner. I just don't like that she gives away such a personal item. Oh well. Guess she's just happy that Mulder is back (for now).

I think it's probably like someone said above - Scully giving the keychain to Doggett was a plot device so it could eventually be given to Leyla Harrison.

It was improv. That was the point. They tried filming it two different ways: once with Leyla cracking up and laughing along with their argument, and once with her totally serious. Turned out to be a better scene if she kept a straight face.
