I know someone said this once before so credit to them but Scully really does get more open minded when Mulder is not around. I guess she does it to sort of have him there in a way or something.
I think a lot of us have said it here. lol. But you're right. Even when Mulder was around and she would go do things by herself she was more open to things, but now shes trying to force it to keep Mulder's presence alive.
Scully: This is my partner's office, Agent Doggett. You and I will just be using it for a while.
That line made me sniffle.
Overall, it was nice to get back to a MotW episode. By now I was like, "Fine, okay! I'm healed! I can deal with this! Let's move on and forget the trauma of the past few months!"
In regards to southoffebruary's comment about "living on a six acre island," well...maybe that could happen sometime say, oh I dunno, eight years later? In the tropics? It'd be a lovely thought. They could take the green sex top with them. hehehe
I generally like this episode. It's one of only two (the other being 'How the Ghosts Stole Christmas') that actually made me jump. The part where Ernie is looking into the fireplace and then turns around the thing is behind him?! EEK

We did see sexism way back in "2Shy," when the detective expressed surprise that Scully was a doctor, questioned "the wisdom of assigning female law enforcement officers to certain types of cases," and suggested that the victims' being female would affect Scully's judgment. But yeah, I think that's the only other time. (And in my opinion, she stood up to the sexism much better in that episode and didn't let another man interfere on her behalf--of course, Mulder wasn't around for the "2Shy" incident, but I think he, unlike Doggett, would have let her fight her own battles, because he respected her).
Well, I wouldn't really know about '2Shy' because it's one of those episodes that's completely disgusting and totally not worth it. So, I think I blocked it out entirely. ;D But, I'm sure you're right and maybe I'll have to go take a look at it to see. Maybe.
she stood up to the sexism much better in that episodePeople get all over Scully this season (and next) for being OOC, and while I definitely agree she is different, I think it's much more about her smarting from Mulder's loss than it is about her being written out of character. She's *gasp* vulnerable and doesn't quite have the fight in her that she normally would--she's lost the person she trusts most, she's pregnant, and she's trying to function in job that she's never done alone and with a new partner that forces her to take on a role she's never had to before: believer. Every aspect of her life has been turned upside down, so I'm not surprised she barely reacted to the sexism. I also wouldn't have been surprised had she reacted viciously to it. I think to expect

Wow, I completely agree with everything you just said :) I used to think that Scully was OOC when I first watched S8/S9, but after rewatching I pretty much came to the same conclusions as you did :)
Yeah, just remember that during this episode, while Doggett and Scully are pissing around chasing Bat Boy (what. the. crap.), that kid Richie from "Requiem" is searching his little heart out for his friend Gary, and it's actually Richie's efforts, and not Doggett and Scully's, that lead them to Mulder in the end. Good job, federal agents!
BAT BOY, seriously. Mulder who?
Also, remember when the people on this show used to think being smart and using big words like "polydactylism" was a good thing and not something to laugh at and/or make faces about? Sigh.
I also hate that she wears the green sweater in this episode, but not as much as I hate her putting Mulder's nameplate in the drawer--although I guess that does symbolize pretty effectively that they've given up on looking for him in favour of more exciting things like bat boys and Jesus slugs and butt genies.

Yessssssssssssss!!! That really annoys me too. I mean I can see why they went on to other things, they cant devote all the time to finding Mulder because it would make for a boring show. But even if there was an indication that Scully was doing it in her spare time. I think I mentioned this on one of your own episode reviews. Something like those maps the LGM printed off and showed Skinner in Within/Without hanging up or just *anything* you know? Then we would know Scully just wasnt waiting around for her babydaddy to come back. Even Mulder looked for her for longer than 2 minutes.

Not if it had been Scully and Skinner being super hot while driving around the country searching! I would be okay with THEM taking the occasional bat boy or Jesus slug case. Maybe.
Well obviously that would've made me really happy. LOL. Skinner was completely wasted these last two seasons. I still say a demotion and pairing with Scully would've worked so much better.
Also loved the line from Doggett: "Ever carry one of these?" (flashlight) and Scully says "Never" haha.
I'm glad you love it, because it makes me want to punch Doggett in the face. But then, I feel that way a lot this season! To me, it's just another one of the mocking assumptions he makes about her (like that she doesn't want facts to ruin her "beautiful theories").
But of course I do agree with you about Scully being hot!

-Scully and her slideshow at the beginning. It kinda reminded me of Mulder's slideshow to Scully in the Pilot. Kinda like a "How's THAT grab you?" lol
-Naturally, Scully is oh so hot and I think her shirt is going to burst open, lol!
