FAIL. Although, actually, there are parts of this episode I really enjoy, so I can't say it's my least favorite ever. Scully's whole monologue in the beginning you quoted above is great, and the whole "not even I would be so far-fetched" thing when Mulder accuses her of assuming their doppelgangers are (also) in a relationship. Awwww. :)
HATE this episode, oh my God. The banter in the office in the beginning is unbearably cute, but that is IT. And DD and GA are to thank for that.
DD only had a handful of episodes left and they wasted good Mulder time on this crap. *cries* Not only that, but CC had already started putting in his reactionary, mean-spirited crap that would continue right on through all of S8, when it came to Mulder's character. In this one, he wires his jaw shut. Very subtle, Chris, THANKS. Ugh.
The less said about this episode, the better. (Also: KATHY GRIFFIN. I think that says it all. Seriously, WTF were they thinking?)
There are definitely worse episodes than this one, but not too many.
I think the beginning is way cute. First Scully basically has the exposition, then by the end she's actually running the slideshow. Handing over the reins indeed. I thought dubbing the voices was a crap idea too. Why do they actually have to SOUND the same to be doppelgangers? That didn't really make sense to me--they're not twins. But, that's about it. Oh, except that Scully DID totally kick Mulder's ass. :D That boy needs some self-defense classes.
