Mod note: Guys, I'd just like to ask you if we can refrain from any spoilery (even mild) talk about XF2. And If you guys can stop from using really spoilery icons? I know no one has yet, but my co-mod and I'm sure plenty other of people in our comm wont be seeing the movie until next week with the later release date in Europe. Meanwhile, I have ( Read more... )

God this episode is DULL. An X-File without Mulder and Scully (mostly)! WOW, WHOOOPPPIIEEE. Big fun.

Not.

I love the jokey fic that was something about what Mulder and Scully were doing during the case. (Hint: nothing PG).

Thanks for the note at the top as well!

I think with that low cut PINK tank top Scully was wearing, Mulder didnt really want to investigate a case.

Well he was investigating SOMETHING alright: "The twins".

Sorry man, I'm high off a crazy day.

I'm sure they got a thorough investigation with hands AND tongue.

I dont care, this episode is so boring that this is all the attention I can give it. If they were going to do a monster POV, at least let the monster be interesting, not shark-lizard boy.

I like that this is told from the monster's point of view, and they did a really great job of making Rob into a likable character; even though what he's doing is horrible, you find yourself rooting for him and hoping that he can get control of his life and change his behavior. However, the lack of M&S is unfortunate; you almost forget you're watching X-Files, ha ha. Scully in particular is noticeably absent... I wonder if Gillian Anderson was otherwise engaged for some reason, or if it was just because the script called for it? I liked seeing Mulder from the bad guy's POV, though. Man, he sure is nosy, huh? I also think he arrived at the conclusion (that someone/something was eating people's brains - and then that it was Rob) ridiculously fast, but whatever. They wanted to focus on Rob's perspective, and I feel like Mulder's side of the story suffered for it, but oh well. Another neat thing was that it ended when Rob died, because it was from his POV.

I dont really find Rob likeable at all. And the only thing I am wishing for is the ending. LOL.

This episode would've been better had there been a more interesting monster. Just ... I dunno, I really dont like him. I had more sympathy for the fat-sucking dude in 2shy.

I've seen the movie twice within 16 hours (once at midnight, and again at 3:45pm). Plus I was interviewed by a local newspaper about it, and they're coming by tomorrow to take my picture. So I'm sorry if I'm a little bit pre-occupied right now; I will have to post my thoughts on this ep later.

Fun Facts:
- The real Lucky Boy restaurant is located in Los Feliz, California, which substituted for the fictional drive-thru, which was located in Costa Mesa, California.

- Originally the script called for the drive-thru to be called Burgerlishious. But the location department found a restaurant location was ideal except for a big sign saying LUCKY BOY that couldn't be removed. So, ever flexible, The X-Files simply changed the fictional drive-thru's name to match.

Back Story:
"An X-Files director since the second season, Kim Manners likes to sum up the general process of creating the show this way: 'We're going to hell but we're having a great time ( ... )

[Cont'd]:

"Monster shows are makeup coordinator John Vulich's favourite kind of show. Vulich, whose company, Optic Nerve, also provides alien images for Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel, and Roswell, found the challenge of turning put-upon Rob into a shark-like, brain-eating mutant complex on a number of fronts ( ... )

I only like this episode because I, too, live in Costa Mesa...and now maybe I'll run into Vince one day! Fingers crossed.

Finally got around to watching this. Here are my observations:

- The camera shakes a bit as it takes in the opening shot of the Lucky Boy parking lot. Windy, perhaps?
-Mulder hair = hot. Scully hair = not so hot.
- Sylvia: "Hey Rob, you didn't tell me you have a friend in the FBI." Harkens back to The Host when Mulder is told HE has a friend at the FBI.
- I love how they used Steve Kiziak's real name!
- Mulder's friendly reassurances to Rob are very, very UN-reassuring.
- When Mulder mentioned a proboscis it sounded SO DIRTY!! At least, the look on Scully's face made it seem dirty.

In general, I don't mind this episode. I'd even go so far to say that I like it. I think the character of Rob did a good job of carrying the story along. There were enough layers and contrasting elements to maintain my interest. And I love how it ends with the audience hoping that Mulder *won't* shoot Rob. Trust TXF to foster sympathy for a brain-eating mutant.
