Yesterday was commencement for the Class of 2007 (GUUUSS!) and it was awesome. THe entire ceremony was the coolest thing, and Secretary Gates was a very good speaker (and former Air Force officer)... and when Gen. D. said those timeless words, "Class of 2007- You are dismissed!" everyone erupted in cheers and clapping and it was so cool. They threw their parade caps in the air and the Thunderbirds flew over (yes, we have a Thunderbirds air show at our graduation ceremony! Ha!) So now they're all second lieutenants (how frightening) and I went to the grad party for one of our firsties.

He was our flight commander during 2nd BCT and taught everyone a lot about leadership, I think. Even though he wasn't the best cadet in the world, his numbers didn't look bad because he was a bad cadet, but because he was always pushing aside the things he "should" have done (schoolwork, etc.) for his people. His door was always open if we had a problem and I remember having an hour and a half tlak with him a month or two before recognition. He's a great guy and taught us that the best leaders are always their for their people. We all respected him during Basic (which is hard to get basics to do because you're more scared than anything) and now we mourn his being given to the Navy as an Ensign.

I'll probably post pictures and videos later of the graduation ceremony and the Thunderbirds, who are, by the way, amazing.

One of the best parts about it all is that now, I'm a third class cadet. I'm no longer a four dig. No longer the shit on the bottom of the upperclassmen's shoes. That's a good feeling.

It also opens me up to a world of opportunities- like upperclassmen and wearing civvies.

Ah, life can only get better from here.
