Ballad Of The Gargoyle
By Cory English
I'm just a page in your book
The slimmest of paragraphs
On a blank dull grey page.
Forgotten upon your behalf.
But I am a piano
With all the keys stuck.
Repeating these same three chords
Over and over again.
And singing off-key in accompaniment
Is my mournful hypnotic dissent.
And you are my beautiful malady.
A sickness embedded beneath.
You leave me in shambles
A distance preambled
By a love not so easy to defeat.
How i long to hear you say
"Today begins another day
Another chapter of our's and we's
To our fate we hold the key."
I look across this bright lights city
Etched 'pon my face a look of pity
And this bitter wind cuts through my bones
Without your warmth, I turned to stone.
