shipping to USA (from Australia, not Hong Kong) will be $17.25 by air or $12.30 by sea

Nah, mail by sea is actually fine with me since I'm in no rush. XD No tracking needed, either.

Unless seamail is unreliable? I've never used it before.

Not sure about the reliabilty of sea mail ... but I do know thatSeamail is a lot slower than airmail. I think seamail takes at least a month, sometimes up to two months.

If you are okay with seamail then seamail it will be XD
