Leaving.
On August 18, 2003, I walked into this building, the same building that I have gone to school in every school day for the last nine years, as an eighth grader. Once of the things, and probably the most important thing on my mind was that wonderful and blessed day commonly known as "Graduation." I'm going to take a wild guess and say that graduation was probably on your minds also. I mean, who wouldn't want to think about the day when we leave the lowest part of society and take the step up to highschool? Wonderful thought, isn't it? Well, what I didn't think about was the drastic effect that this last school year could have on my life.
Take a look at the people around you. More than likely you have known them for a very long time, and if they were new students this year then you have probably gotten to know them better. You've probably gone to the mall with your friends, maybe even seen a movie or two. If you needed someone to talk to, someone would usually be there, and you've probably gotten help with homework once or twice...three times, or maybe even more. As we move on in life, all these things will soon become memories of days long gone. But I thought that this year wouldn't end and that I could look forward to another day of having fun with my friends, along with some education on the side. Unfortunately, nothing lasts forever and sadly I look around this room at the amazing people that I am glad to, for the last time, call my official classmates at St. Joseph. I have come to know a kalidescope of people randing from an upcoming singer and actress, to a B-Boy breakdancer and freestyle rapper, the next possible prom queen, a kung-fu master, and a group of guys who one day hope to get the car of their dreams. From my role-play teacher, to the Charger-lover, from the guy who was always there to give homework help, to those kids who are better in sports than anyone else, along with two Filipinos who were usually in the wrong classrooms, I know that I will never forget any of my classmates who have become my friends over the course of this year. Speaking of this year, many humorous things have happened as well, mostly in the class of things from the past and the class with the guy who can't quite decide on one hair colour. None of these things will easily be lost from my memory.
One thing that we can count on is the coming of whatever is in the future. Get a good education, kids. I know that you hear that a lot, but don't just sit on your couch and watch television all your life. God have given each and every one of us a special talent or gift. It is up to us to take that gift, unwrap it, and share it with the world. Don't just let it sit in the corner collecting dust. Another thing that I've learned this year: Don't take anything for granted. Ever. Be thankful for what you have, and don't whine about it. Someone out there might be wishing for a life like yours, and they'll never have it.
So, as I can see that you guys are getting tired of me taking up your time, I'll end this quick. You guys are the St. Joseph Class of 2004, the class I graduated with, and will always be in my heart. And remember, no matter what happens, everything happens for a reason.
