Today was a decent day all in all. I woke with the sun streaming through the windows of me cabin. I mis-remembered the time that I had set for Creative Writing Class. The scullion boys want to learn to be literate, so I thought they could use some creativity. If they insist on learning their letters, they can at least forge me some Port Papers. But, the mis-remembering was the only thing awry today. I talked with me Chair, and it was a good talk. I had considered returning to land for a while, but me Chair talked me from it. Also, Chair gave me three or four un-barbed complimentary comments. It made me drop me guard, and I almost put me hook in me eye, the good one. I played some war-games with the captain of another vessel, the Crawford, and went to the cloth market to visit the wife of an old companion of mine who's given up the life. While at the market, and old galley crow sweet-talked me into trying some spicy sauce that damned near seared me tongue out of me head. If ye go to the market, beware The Beast. It'll put hair on yer chest, and burn yer throat out of yer neck.
In other happenings, I had a nice talk with me former flame, and things are fine and flat between us, like the Caspian Sea on a clear fall day. She'll not wish me to hell, nor will I do it to her. We'll co-operate and things should be dandy.
Also, whichever of ye stole me favorite eye-patch has six hours to return it to me cabin door, and no questions shall be asked. If I find ye with it after what I set down, ye'll be left to rot on the first speck of sand Hawk sees.
