I decided to create a simple html page to direct clients to in regards to my commission artwork pricing. I've had this happen enough that I think it warrants it, rather than me sitting at my computer banging my head into the keys when faced with this

Sound reasoning. I could go into reasons why I think you're undercutting yourself for the quality of work you produce, but that would be an exercize in futility. We've had the discussion ;)

At least the webpage will help cull the gene pool a bit, hopefully.

people will ALWAYS bitch about skilled labor prices. The other day the wife was looking at a repair bill on my truck. It was like $150 in parts, and $200 in labor charges

Oh I completely get it. I just felt the need to put it in terms people who question would understand. Here's the math- if you still feel like it's too much, then door, ass. All that ;)

I think 100 bucks is more than reasonable for the quality of art that you produce. Were I not being raked over the coals financially myself I would have commissioned you to do work for me long ago.

I completely understand your reasoning, though. I went through a similar thing with repainting action figures. They take me an average of 10-12 hours at the least to get them to look really good and the most people wanted to pay for them was 20 bucks. From a consumer standpoint I can understand that to a point, but when you break that down, that's less than 2 bucks an hour for me. So I decided in the end it didn't seem worth it. Now they're just sitting here looking awesome instead. :P

I personally think you are not charging enough, your work is exquisite. Had I the resources, I'd get one, but I'm kinda broke for a while

awesome post. We should have a chart like this for cons. When people complain about prices we whip it out and say, "ok, this is how much the Marvel/DC would charge you."
