That Goodreads stuff is like a car crash in slow motion. Every time I hear something new about it, I'm more convinced that certain people just shouldn't be allowed to use words. Or the Internet. Possibly both.

As for self-publishing--it can be done adequately and with an air of professionalism. But it's still a giant slush pile. No getting around that.

I'm just amazed it's continuing (re: Goodreads). I mean, this has gone on since January. It's been condemned by bloggers, authors, and publishing people alike, and yet it keeps happening. Now, the last two cases have been by PUBLISHED authors, who should have their agents and PR people telling them no and taking away their keyboard.

I'm not making a sweeping statement that all self-publishers are bad and we should take away self-publishing; but self-publishing allows for anyone and everyone to publish, and many times it's not good stuff and they're being called out for it. Everyone can self-publish, but not everyone can write well.

Someone on AW said it best: I don't care about the reviews after someone's already bought it because I've gotten paid. (Paraphrasing, of course.)
