I will shoot you. And I know robot karate.

I saw Be Kind Rewind tonight, which is a charming and funny valentine to getting back to enjoying movies for movies' sake. I don't know why the story had to be so convoluted to get to this point, but for decidedly implausible reasons Jack Black and Mos Def find themselves obligated to remake hit movies with no budget, minimal cast, and one camera.

If for nothing else, the movie is enjoyable for seeing the inventive lengths they go to in order to simulate special effects. The movie has, in turn, encouraged other people to make their own short versions of major films. I spent a decent chunk of today looking through them, and these three are the best of the best:

Die Hard. The shot in the "ventilation duct" is priceless.

Star Wars. The TIE-Fighter sound effect makes this.

Jurassic Park. So much to love.

It was interesting to note that most of the people doing this were non-Americans. I'm not sure, but I assume the opportunity to do a version of a Hollywood movie in their own accent was exciting. Regardless, the fun these people have makes watching their versions fun. It's like being given license to play make-believe on a large scale.
