Castiel rarely visited the future. He knew how, and had done so in the past. Other angels were known for their various traveling through time.
“Little brother, just do it,” Gabriel said, slapping him on the shoulder. “Just take a quick peek into your future. It doesn’t hurt anything.”
“No, Gabriel,” Castiel said. “I do not wish to know what will happen to me in my existence. I will discover it as it happens.”
Gabriel laughed hysterically.
“Oh, but you’ve got to see it. Everyone has had a glimpse at their future selves. Dean saw it.”
“And that future will not come to pass anymore,” Castiel countered sharply. Gabriel threw his arms up in defense. “Besides, my dwindling Grace will not allow me to do it.”
“Little brother, I’ve got more than enough to share,” Gabriel said as he placed two fingers on Castiel’s forehead.
They ended up in a room. Castiel saw movement through the open door.
“They won’t see us, trust me,” Gabriel whispered. “Just watch.”
The figures entered the room. Castiel saw that it was him and Dean. Dean was carrying a small bundle in a pink blanket.
“And this is your room,” Dean said in a soft voice into the blanket.
“She’s asleep, Dean,” the future him said with a smile.
“Doesn’t matter,” Dean said. He walked over to the crib and lay the infant down in it. Both of them leaned over the side of the crib. “I can’t believe the adoption went through so quickly,” Dean said, a touch of awe in his voice.
“Her birth mother seemed grateful she was going to a loving home,” Castiel said, sliding an arm around Dean’s waist.
“Can’t believe Mary slept from the hospital all the way here,” Dean said, reaching his hand into the crib to touch the sleeping infant’s cheek.
Castiel made sure that the baby monitor was plugged in and on. Dean was still leaning over the crib.
“She’s beautiful, and she’s ours,” Dean whispered. Castiel wrapped both arms around Dean.
“And she’ll have the most overprotective father,” Castiel teased.
“Damned right,” Dean growled. “I know what’s out there.” Castiel dropped a kiss to Dean’s neck, hiding his smile.
They both stared into the crib at the newborn. Their smiles matched, so wide that their cheeks hurt.
“She’s beautiful,” Dean whispered. “Our daughter is the most beautiful girl in the world.”
“You nervous?” Castiel asked.
“Not at all,” Dean said, his eyes never leaving the baby. “You’re the one with no experience with babies.”
“I’ve been watching humans for eons,” Castiel said, placing another kiss on Dean’s neck.
“Not the same,” Dean chuckled.
“When did she last eat?” Castiel asked.
“She’s not due for another feeding for another hour,” Dean said. Castiel wrapped his arms around Dean and pulled him in for a kiss. They stood beside Mary’s crib, kissing softly for a few minutes.
“She’s perfect,” Castiel whispered. Dean smile was huge.
“I love you, Cas,” Dean whispered.
“I love you too. Let’s get the formula ready for the next time she wakes up,” Castiel said, ushering Dean out of the room. As Castiel stopped to turn off the light, he looked in the corner that Castiel and Gabriel were in and gave a knowing smile.
They were back in the present before the light went out.
“Why did you show me that?” Castiel asked, tears forming.
“You needed to see it,” Gabriel said. Castiel’s mouth was in a hard line as he shook his head.
“No, I didn’t,” he gritted out. “There is no way that taking me there is going to help with the Apocalypse!”
“Get your head out of your ass, bro!” Gabriel shouted, pushing Castiel in the chest. “If Lucifer wins, that won’t happen. If Michael gets a hold of Dean, it won’t happen. Dammit, Cas, do you want what you saw?”
“Yes,” Castiel trembled, fighting the tears.
“Then you collective heads of knuckles better work fucking fast and end this!” Gabriel snapped.
“And I suppose we’re doing this without your help?” Castiel sneered at him. Gabriel narrowed his eyes.
“I’ve done my part,” he said in a low voice. “And you have my word, that what I have done will be invaluable.”
Castiel shook his head and walked away from the archangel. “Goodbye Gabriel.”
“Goodbye, my brother,” Gabriel said before flying to the Elysian Fields Hotel.
