I'm in Rhode Island. I finally got a stable internet connection in my apartment, but the price was high. I toasted my linux box in order to obtain internet access. Anyways, I enjoy it up here i guess. Its very different. Things move at a much slower pace. Its been raining every day since i got here last week and the temperature is in the 50s, but i kind of like that. My apartment was dreadfully disappointing at first: no AC, roaches, big set of stairs to walk up, peeling walls, no tv, dirty rooms. However, after being here awhile, ive gotten used to it. I'm sure my first real apartment after school wont be any better.
I have to walk every day to work 40 minutes there and back, but it is a pleasant walk. I can also reach pretty much any place in the city (I'm in Providence) by walking 40 minutes. The city has nice stores, a huge mall, restaraunts, imax theatre, and clubs. So i guess I'm pretty cool. Though my roommate and I went clubbing two nights last weekend, but got lost the second night and didnt get there til 2AM. The manager was like "Boys, this is Providence, not New York. We close at 2." What a snide bast...I mean nice gentleman ^_^. I went to the mall last weekend and saw the movie, The Break-up. It was pretty decent. Less raunchy than most vince vaughn movies.
My job is pretty neat. I'm working with good people and get decent pay. I have no set hours or people to watch over me. I just gotta get the work done. I get payed $8.60 an hour, but its tax free. Furthermore, I get an $18 a day stipend for food. Strangely, whatever we dont use we can pocket. Our room and transportation is free too, which is really cool.
If my work goes well, it will get published and I might get to go to Europe for a week or two to present my paper in conferences. I went to a symposium and trade show the other day with my bosses. It was for the US NAVY and other private contractors and the topic was human system interfaces. I was kind of bored, but some speeches were interesting. The people and food were good too. I even got 1 or 2 job offers I wont take. I did a lot of talking with random people..sucking up and well you know..making myself look good. My boss likes me though. He said he may offer me a permanent job after school. Not sure what i think about that or the idea of living in Providence. COOL.
Anyways, im tired. I miss you all and stuffs. Ciao.
