Instant Stuff (Computer Game Talk)

Stuff! Here it is, and plenty of it too. Actually, that might be not true. There may only be a moderate amount of stuff.

I have been working hard lately and making lots of improvements. Between Giftmas and my birthday, some gift money added up and I have been itching to buy something new. My desires seem to wane, but I always love computer games. My computer is years old now and isn't much of a gaming computer for the new games. So I was thinking of buying a PS3. I have an HDTV, and the PS3 makes use of that. The Wii doesn't do HDTV, although it is fun. But the PS3 costs as much as my computer's graphics card did, and now it runs games better than my computer does. Also, the PS3's online games can be played for free, which is a huge bonus. Now, the other thing I really like about console systems that most people don't think about is that there are no hackers. You don't have the capability to hack the games. When I play Counter Strike: Source on my PC, there is a hacker every thirty minutes or so, running at super speeds or killing everyone instantly with hack-controlled automatic aiming. When I played World of Warcraft (and other online RPGs as well, actually) hundreds of people were hacking there too. They have programs running on their PC that play the game for them so they can accumulate money and power 24-7.

Whether you can afford to spend $4000 to buy a nice gaming computer or not, or if it outperforms the PS3, you still can't get away from the hackers. The PS3's lack of functionality compared to a PC is therefore a blessing. The only pure online gaming experiences are offered by console systems, and this is what attracts me to the PS3. And there's no subscription fee to play online. I already said that, but it's just too cool.

While I was thinking of not playing games as much this year, I have managed to fit some gaming in while having more productive days than usual. The only thing that bothers me is that I could apply more money to pay off my credit. However, it's birthday money, and some of it is on gift cards, so it would be like getting money off on a PS3. And although I am a fan of my older game systems, I do long to feel that sense of community again and be part of the here and now.

It can't hurt to go to the store and have a gander. Gander... I love that word.
