Himig Tomasino 2010 - The Story

Feb 23, 2010 22:15

Before I go on with the story, let me ask you this, What do you think "Dalubhasaan ng Kuntadorya'" mean? I'm serious!! Just think about it for a minute, ok? XD

BTW, Pictures are on my Facebook!!

Himig Tomasino, TACS reason for living, breathing and existing. Without said contest, The Accountancy Chamber Singers would never be born. And it just so happens that it just concluded last February 12!! Hooray!!!

The day before the contest, we were excused from ALL our classes by the SOCC (Student Organization Coordinating Council) so, like all nice, studious students, we took the chance to get out of class (for free!!). But of course when we were waiting for the others to arrive, all of us were cramming last minute school work to give to our classmates so they'll pass it on to the prof's. hehe..

Call Time: 8 AM

I woke up, realized I was late, and started  running all over the house to get ready. Because really, why did they text only now to bring foundations, brushes and lipsticks!! Sheesh!! Everybody knows I hate those stuff!!  Luckily Mom's already awake so I borrowed her make up and hitched a ride to school.

Room 430

There were 5 of them when I arrived. And the room was HOT. Really hot. It was a Friday too so we were just stealing the room because we don't really have a room of our own. That's were I told them I burned the costume. Not really a Oh-My-Gosh-It's-BLACK!! kind of burn but a Hey-what's-that-hole-on-your-sleeve kind of burn. Stupid costumes! Pinahirapan na nga kami ng mananahi sa pabalik-balik sa Divisoria tapos andali pa lang masunog!!! Luckily It was just a little patch by the sleeve so it was all good. Ate Jaki just won't stop teasing me about it though.

Room 431, 10 AM

We changed room because we found out that a class need's to use it. Others started to arrive when they said call time was 8AM. And they brought iron to Iron the clothes. Turns out a lot of us don't know how to iron clothes so we asked Kuya Alex and Kuya Igie to do it for us. Hehe.

It was also Teacher's day at AMV so the SC president invited us to eat at the buffet there. Free Food!! So it was a happy day. Too bad we couldn't eat the Buko Pandan or even drink the Red Iced Tea or Kuya Gelo would have our head's. We didn't want a repeat of last year where some of us didn't have any voices during the competition itself!! coughcough. XD

Multi-Purpose Hall, 1 PM

Magene finally arrived with all the make up and false eyelashes and everything else we need. So we started getting ready. A lot of oldies arrived too! Ate Charm and the whatsisname guy. Even Ate Rachel's UST SInger's sister came to help us get ready. Magene was panicking because She and Ate Sang were the only one's who knew how to put on the make up and there were a LOT of us. And it took a long time to put that blasted gunk on the face!!!

Medicine Building, 6PM

We finally got to the Med bldg. We actually  ran (or Speed Walked since some of us already put on those heels) to our designated room since we were running (haha!!) late. Magene was still putting on her make up. The room was actually an instant dressing room since it was one of those rooms where you can close of half of its side so we didn't need to go to the other side of the bldg where the bathrooms are.We crammed in one last reh before Kuya was forcing us to relax because we were all jittery (or maybe that's just me).

Backstage, 6:45 PM

The Emcee kept talking in Tagalog. The theme IS in tagalog but still, it was weird. And the male Emcee was wearing this Bahag/Barong hybrid that I couldn't decide to laugh at or cry.

Showtime

We were actually really excited when we were done. The song's were beautiful and when we entered, nobody was really cheering for us. Just the generic, polite applause, But when we were done, everybody was actually cheering! We we shocked! Absolutely shocked! It was one of the best moments I ever had!! XD

When everybody was done, all the choir's were on stage for the awarding ceremony. As usual, we weren't paying any attention. My shoes were killing me and it was HOT! Damn those stage lights!!

Remember what I said about the Emcee speaking in Tagalog? I meant it. they were awarding the special awards first for the Best Costume and the Best Interpretation of the Contest Piece.

Emcee: At ang nanalo para sa ating Best Costume ay ang... Facultad ng Sining at Letra!

See what I mean? Tagalog. And since we where College of Accounancy, eveytime the Emcee says "Facultad", we immediately know it wasn't us. We were really waiting for Kolehiyo ng Accountancy.

So here now is the joke of the night,

Emcee: At ang award para sa Best Interpretation ng Contest Piece ay ibinibigay sa... Dalubhasaan ng Kuntadorya!!!
Audience: huh??
TACS: (No reaction)
Emcee:........................ College of Accountancy!!
TACS: !!!!!!!

Really, we had no idea what the Tagalog of College of Accountancy was!!! Nobody did! I remember when they called out "Dalubhasaan ng Kuntadorya" I was thinking, "Good for them Now why aren't they cheering? Wonder which college that is..." Even Kuya Eli said "Haha!! Baho naman ng pangalan nila!!" When the emcee finally translated, we were all laughing and jumping for joy. Akalain mo, kami pala yung may mabahong pangalan??! hahahaha!!

Finally they Called out the winners:

2nd runner up: Faculty of Arts and Letters
1st runner up: College of Accountancy
Champion: Faculty of Engineering

And get this, They won by only 1 point. ONE POINT!! All the TACS members were thinking that if we had choreography, we woud have won. But really, how could you put choreography on a piece like alleluia??

By the end of the night, you could see the trophy with lots of fingerprints on it since we kept wanting to touch it since it was the first ever award for us. Like they said, 3 times the charm. Only the third year since the choir was orn and we have our first award. Of course we kept wanting to touch it.

But the real price of the evening was this. Long before the contest proper, Kuya Gelo made a bet with us. If got in the top 2 of the competition, he would pay for the place for our outing during Summer!! And since we place 2nd, FREE OUTING!!!  We were actually chanting that on stage after the contest. Outing Outing Outing!!! And then after that, ICE CREAM!! ICE CREAM!! ICE CREAM!!

After months and months of waiting, We could finally, FINALLY, eat Ice cream without feeling guilty of breaking Kuya's rule of no Ice cream!! The Joyness of it all!!! XDDD

ETA:: Here's an ultra summary of what really happened to us. With pictures!! beyond-periphery.tumblr.com/post/404593767/its-a-win-win-for-ac
