Okay people, I'm late again, but here's the food post I promised. It's SUPPENKÜCHE again because I was really craving German cooking and sausages :P
The last time I was here, I forgot to photograph the ceiling probably because it was nighttime and crowded and loud as heck. But since it was lunchtime on this occasion, it wasn't as packed and there was light coming in through the windows. I noticed the ceiling for the first time and it was really a work of art. There were so many things hanging from it, and their placement was very thoughtfully composed.
The way I perceived it was a flock of birds flying through some trees. Whoever put the thing together took enough time to observe the way birds actually fly and hang some of them at an angle where they were turning. And put all the birds in realistic flight configurations. Not many of them were just hanging there; they were all done at a small angle or tilt, which made it very interesting to see and real, as if there was actually a flock of birds in the restaurant.
The last time, some shock was sustained after seeing how large the beer mugs were, but that was only from a distance. This time, I got to see one up close. By that I mean right in front of me. Because they served my water in
a beer mug.
THE SHEER SIZE OF THE THING. O.O
Now onto the food. I ordered Reibekuchen mit hausgemachtem Apfelmus (Potato Pancakes with Homemade Apple Sauce) again because I really liked it from the last time I had it.
Yeah, the picture was taken after some of it had been eaten.
And since I came to this restaurant with an intent of eating sausages, I really do love sausages, I've realized I made sure to pick a dish that had sausages in it. Wurstgeröstel mit Ei, Kartoffeln, Speck und Gurkensalat (Roasted Pork Sausages scrambled with Eggs, Potatoes & Bacon served with a Cucumber Salad) was what I ended up ordering.
It was NOT what I had expected. I thought the sausages would be whole, not sliced. And I thought the eggs would be scrambled on the side, with the potatoes and bacon as separate entities. The potatoes cut into the chunks; the bacon appearing as strips. The only thing that came out the way I thought it would was the cucumber salad. Though now, upon going back and rereading the description of the dish, it was logical that it turned out the way that it did. However, it tasted pretty good even though I really wished the sausages were whole... (The potato pancake didn't come with this dish; it migrated from the previous one.)
While eating, I noticed a beer size chart on the table. I liked the animal silhouettes on it and thought the sizes were pretty...interesting to say the least.
