The Seven Songs Meme:
(Kit was patient zero for this one)

"List seven songs you are into right now. No matter what the genre, whether they have words, or even if they’re not any good, but they must be songs you’re really enjoying now, shaping your spring. Post these instructions in your blog along with your 7 songs. Then tag 7 other people to see what they’re listening to."

(I've included pertinent links)

1. Mark Vidler "Main Bloom"
A really great mashup of Nirvana's "In Bloom" and Alan Parker's "Main Chance".  It feels like a really natural pairing, the perfect fit.  It's also great for this meme with the references to spring and all.

2. k.d. lang "Constant Craving"
Not only do I love this song right now, I love the video.  The early-mid 1990's stylized theatrical video always instilled a sense of inspiration and awe in me growing up and that appreciation largely has stayed with me.

3. The Beatles "Glass Onion"
My favorite Beatles songs are from their later experimental years.  Even though they were coming apart at the seams behind the scenes there's a sense of exhuberance and power in the White Album.  I also love the way this song is a commentary by the Beatles about their fan's habit of assigning meanings to their songs.  The song plays right to that tendency on a direct literal level and an unintentional ironic level that feeds the Beatles mythology.

4. Last Alliance "Shissou"
I would never have discovered this song were it not for Huber, and I would never have discovered Huber if not for Kit.  It's like a memetic ouroboros!  I like to have this on when I'm doing cardio exercises--there's really good energy to the song, even during the slow parts.

5. Radiohead "Bodysnatchers"
A song with a surprising amount of energy.  I really like the tension that the haunting techno moan chorus creates a feremen kind of feel.

6. Chris Cornell "You Know my Name"
It is impossible--IMPOSSIBLE I say--to not think this song is totally badass.  Even without the spectacular opening sequence in the second Casino Royale it's fantastic.  Cornell has put a lot of startling emotion and strength into the this one.

7. Johnny McGovern "Soccer Practice"
Earlier today Ethan said, "I feel like if you lived in the 13th century you'd be dead by now."  He's probably right.
