I wrote these about a month ago, and realized that while I posted them at
1sentence, I didn't post them here. I actually officially signed up at the community this time (ha).
Fifty one-liners, Nash/Sierra, mostly Suikoden III and Suikogaiden but with a bit of II and an oblique (and non-spoiler, since if you don't already know it you won't get it) reference to V.
A brief note: These are presented in chronological order rather than in the order of the themes on the table; since the FAQ says the structure doesn't need to be strictly followed, I assume this is all right. I apologize to those who don't know the fandom and may find this a bit disorienting, but I feel it makes things much more coherent to those who know the fandom and is important to the overall piece.
All tense changes are absolutely intentional.
#49: victory
The Moon Rune is cold but familiar on her left hand, and Neclord is gone.
#01: walking
"Can't you walk, or did you lose the use of your legs in your old age?" He asked when he found her sitting on top of his pack again.
#41: nowhere
"Are we there yet?" she asked, and he dropped his backpack with her on it.
#44: near
"Stay close," she commanded in a low voice, and he listened.
#34: serenade
"Ah, my lady," Nash called out dramatically from below her window, "if you will not be swayed by reason, allow me to appeal to your emotional side by reading from one of my favorite pre-Imperial poets-- ow, you didn’t have to throw a chair at me!"
#18: balloon
"Need a little help, there?" Nash can't help but laugh at the sight of her toes barely touching the ground thanks to the three balloons the flying squirrels have attached to her head.
#11: birthday
"Of course I don’t remember when I was born," she said, brushing cool fingers over his cheek.
#26: jump
The only time he can startle her is in the morning, when the sun is bright and she isn’t paying attention.
#16: breaking
Her canines didn't quite break the thin skin at his wrist, and he drew in a sharp breath.
#29: jewel
The small bejeweled clasps on her cloak were difficult to undo the first few times he tried.
#02: waltz
"What, do you think I was learning to dance in the woods?" She asked sweetly after stepping on Nash's toes for the third time.
#04: wonder
She takes him to the ruins of a village, and he can’t help but be awed when he realizes what that village once was.
#20: bane
They meet a strange, dark woman on the road who puts Sierra into such a foul mood that Nash begs her leave before someone gets killed.
#37: soliloquy
The Moon Rune’s whispered words fade into her thoughts so well that it seems she’s talking to herself.
#28: jousting
They spar every time they speak, or so it seems sometimes.
#10: weddings
"I don't need any child playing with a True Rune to perform my wedding," Sierra said, crossing her arms in front of her.
#13: bias
She always assumed he was lying.
#14: burning
She had no desire to play with fire, so Nash went to Budehuc alone.
#19: balcony
He makes sure to get a room with a balcony, because if he doesn't she'll come in through the castle cellar and do her best to frighten people on her way upstairs.
#48: virtuous
"Ah, but I’m a married man."
#06: whimsy
"This play does not mention any old hags," Sierra said sharply, and he laughed.
#21: quiet
Neither one of them says a word as they sit next to the lake.
#38: sojourn
The most interesting nights he has with the Flame Champion’s army are the ones she slips into the castle for.
#46: horizon
Nash can just barely see Budheuc on the horizon when Sierra rejoins him.
#05: worry
"Of course I didn't care about that Lightfellow girl," Sierra said, and Nash knew she was telling the truth.
#36: sordid
"I can’t wait to go back to Alma Kinan," he said, and she rolled her eyes.
#47: valiant
In the end, Nash couldn’t face the end as a mortal man; it took years of convincing to get Sierra to keep that from happening.
#23: question
"Will it hurt?" He asks before she does it, and she doesn’t answer because she can’t remember.
#12: blessing
When he looked at the moon above him and the moon next to him he understood, just for a moment, why they called it the blessing of undeath.
#33: stupidity
The first time he turns into a bat he flies right into a wall, and she laughs for so long that he starts sulking.
#03: wishes
"Don’t tell my sister a thing," Nash says, the flash of scarlet under his golden lashes enough authority to get his wishes heard.
#27: jester
"You can dance for the Bishops all you like, but I won’t," she said flatly.
#39: share
"If you had really wanted her... I am old enough to know how to share, you know."
#08: whiskey and rum
He pretended to drink what he was offered, lest he offend them.
#43: nuance
"Turnabout is fair play," he whispered, his own fangs brushing her wrist in nearly the exact same way she had done years before.
#22: quirks
"I used to hate tomato juice," Nash says accusingly as they sit in the bar in Caleria.
#07: wasteland
She refused to tell him what future her rune showed her.
#32: sorrow
Destiny isn’t quite ready to finish things up, it seems, and their old compatriots start dying long before the final conflicts begin.
#09: war
Sasarai didn't believe for a moment that Harmonia had any control over the coven mistress.
#17: belief
She and Harmonia believe in the same future, and that's the only reason she hasn't permanently dealt with that obnoxious bishop yet.
#24: quarrel
The longest they’ve gone without speaking to one another is four months.
#31: smirk
He never smirks; it’s always a real smile (and that’s why he’s dangerous, because there are three people in the world who have ever been able to tell when he was genuine and only one who knows his new face well enough to do it now).
#45: natural
The moon is driving him mad (all three of them, the real one and the rune and the woman) and it feels like the most natural thing in the world.
#35: sarcasm
"I love you."
#25: quitting
"You could leave Harmonia if you really wanted to," she points out even though she knows he doesn’t want to hear it.
#40: solitary
As the years go on, he finds spending time alone more and more appealing.
#30: just
Nash knows better than anyone that the world isn’t just-- but then again, it’s not so bad now that it works to his advantage.
#42: neutral
She is staying out of this battle for as long as she can, regardless of what he and his pet Bishop do.
#50: defeat
He is covered in dirt, but Grosser Fluss is in his mud-caked hands and by now he’s used to madness.
