When I was younger, I used to try to find words that don't have any tails. By tails I mean that visually, the words don't have any letters that jut above or below the midline. I think I did this because of cursive writing, where the lines on which we were to practice letters had smaller guidelines for how big our lower case letters should be. I tried to find the longest words without tails and write them over and over. Now, I do it when I'm bored with a reading assignment and need some kind of objective to keep my eyes glued to the page. Essentially though, tailless words are just lower case words that don't include the letters j, g, t, k, l, b, d, y, q, h, or f. I haven't done it in a while, but my favorite is universe (I don't dot my i's so it works). If you have absolutely nothing to do, find some on a page and tell me what they are. I want to find the longest one in the English language.
