Meeting people from the Internet is a double-edged sword. Sometimes, they come out ten times more awesome than you thought possible.
And sometimes . . .
Well . . .
At any rate: on Forumopolis, there are a lot of people I'd be curious to meet in real life, but I honestly don't know if I'd spend money to make a trip with the potential for disappointment there. (Based on the reports of others that I've read, it works out great sometimes, and others there's a letdown involved.) Only if there was a chance to meet 'em on the way to somewhere else, or if I was a lot richer than I am now.
But from other places, where I don't have much of a chance to get to know them first, even? No. In that case, I'd really rather not. Not even if they're in the same city. Talking online once or twice does not mean you'd be fascinating to meet in person.
