So, these two are officially standing at dysfunction station in downtown Fuckupstian, waiting for the next bus to WHYYYYYYYYYYYYYville.

Darcy's voice. Darcy's voice. I love the way you write her -- this way too quick on the mark, banter-as-coping-mechanism girl with a resilient ego (even if she's not so sure of it). You haven't written a lot of her (that you've shared), but you make her so REAL, and likeable.

And Clint. Clint, with his shadows and denial. AND TASHA'S KNIFE IN HIS BAG. WHICH HE LEFT AT DARCY'S. BECAUSE ZOMG PLEASE TELL ME THIS IS SO BECAUSE I AM DYING HERE. But mainly, Clint, honey? You and your hangups. You beautiful, broken thing.

Darcy thinks she's in Fuckupistan. She's just visiting. Pretty damn sure that Clint's a long-time resident.

...and she watches him fall apart for the second time ever in the two years they've been setting fire to the sheets.
My chest legitimately tightened at this line. Like, catch my breath, hurt-so-good kind of thing. And then my heart double-clutched at the end.

HAPPY WEDNESDAY

I'm pretty sure they're both bivouacked at Dysfunction Station & have been for the past 2 years.

Tasha's knife was, indeed, in Clint's bag but he always has a few of her weapons in his kit just like she always has a few of his in hers. They're combination teddy bears & back-up plans. Clint actually doesn't remember leaving Tasha's knife at Darcy's but then, Clint is a big bag of mental issues, most of which are PTSD related. Tasha wouldn't be as tacky (or obvious) as to have "Property of FSB" stamped on her weapons, Darcy knows the Avengers well enough to recognize that a) the blade style is totally not Clint, b) Clint would never willing leave and of his gear behind, and c) none of the other Avengers uses throwing knives.

I'm pretty sure I have a follow-up to this. I'm warning you though, it's that time of the month. You know what happens to my characters during that time of the month.

PTSD makes absolute sense. And pretty much everything here is a bunch of YESSSSSSSSSSS for me. Though the image of them sleeping with knives under their pillows stands out in particular. The comfort/protection thing is both tender and frightening.

You know what happens to my characters during that time of the month.

Oh yes. Yes I do. *THUNDERSTRIKE*

I promise no one will die?

PS: I need a Darcy song. Something that sums up her Darcy-ness much like "Space Lord" by Monster Magnet summarizes Clint.

You promise nothing and we both know it.

I've got a couple ideas, but give me one piece of headcanon to help me solidify the choice.

I'm writing the sequel at this very moment. Darcy is in War-Torn-Country-X, about 5 years later, working as a humanitarian aid handing out food rations because planning the logistics of handing out food rations was getting boring (aka, no one did it according to her plans or back-up plans or back-up to the back-up plans).

My Darcy Lewis Can't Lose currently has the following for Darcy:
"Modern Girls & Old Fashioned Men" by Regina Spektor (ft. The Strokes)
"Heavy Metal Lover" by Lady GaGa
"My Boy Builds Coffins" by Florence + The Machines
"I Want You" by Elvis Costello (although technically that's from Clint to Darcy)

Okay. I'm thinking "3 Butterflies" by Ubiquitous Synergy Seeker.

It's fun, bouncy, and there's totally her organizational tendencies coupled with the undertone of something else. I'm running off the canon of this piece, and "Darcy Lewis Can't Win".

That work?

I do what I can. Having music for a boyfriend pays off on occasion.

Along those lines. Okay.

Gimmie another minute.

YOU HAVE MOAR?!

I'm not technically satisfied with the songs I listed for this particular duo of stories because I think of them as more characterisation pieces than a love story, whereas the love story is definitely central to the DLCL plot. If that makes sense?

Katt, doll, have you MET me?

And yes. That makes sense. *cracks knuckles*

Mea culpa, mea culpa; I should not have doubted even though I get ridiculously specific. Music is the Remy to your Rogue.

You are forgiven. For now.

Start with "I Don't Bite" by We Are Scientists.
Maaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaybe "Above you, Below Me" by Badly Drawn Boy.

"Above You, Below Me" is like Darcy talking to Tony.

Dammit. These two are a challenge. I love it.

"My Heart Never Sleeps" -- Lovers
"What I Could Stand For" -- Mates of State (Not so sure about this one, so let me know.)
"Bones and Skin" -- Mirah
