The meme is: Comment and I'll give you a letter. Then, post five songs that start with the letter.

She gave me the letter "A."
"Alone" by Heart: One of the soundtracks of my childhood that I've never, ever stopped loving even before the 80s became retro. Dude, I'm retro. Anne Wilson just WAILS the chorus like nothing on earth. Also, I didn't know they formed in Vancouver until I wikied it just now. Nice!

"Anger as Beauty" by Hawksley Workman: Hawksley Workman can do no wrong, IMHO. How can he with lyrics like "And you're caught up in the only place/ Where the honesty of fear/ Makes a battle like a song/ Falling on your ears." unf.

"At Seventeen" by Janis Ian: When I was in high school, the 60s/70's were retro & I discovered the music of my parents' youth. I COMPLETELY fell in love, thus starting my obsession with folk rock/singer-songwriter/acoustic numbers as well as protest songs. But that's later. First came this song which I ANGSTED over like YOU WOULD NOT BELIEVE. Because I was & am an utter nerd-geek, with all the stereotypical looks & awkwardness. I also started writing fanfics at the same time, including a whole whackload of self-inserts that have never seen the light of the intarwebs. And they never will. Because they're HORRIFIC.

"Arms of a Woman" by Amos Lee: Just. Gorgeousness.

"Alone in the Universe" by David Usher: Yet another call back to my youth (although I think this particular album was post-high school). David Usher is beautiful, he seems to be smart & artistic with lyrics like "We're all infected now/ I know you can feel it/ You're already there/ Asleep underwater/ Just screaming for air/ I know you can feel it/ You're already.../ Don't you know we're freaks and creatures/ Wake up I can almost see the light." Colour me in love.
