Writing in another world
I'm starting the Roman Holiday meets Last Family of Krypton fic which I've tentatively titled "Journey". That's not going to stay very long; I don't like the association with the rock band. ;) Not that there's anything wrong with Journey. It's just not for this story. Also, it reminds me of that Superman/Batman issue where the boys watched the filming of the Superman/Batman movie & Batman is named Darrn or Daryl or something, played by Brad Pitt & lives on the mooooooooooooooooon!
Anyway, I'm writing from Jor-el & Lara's point of view right now and having to stop my usual descriptive overdose because they're on Krypton. Can Lara have "golden" hair if there's no gold on Krypton? IS there gold on Krypton? If there is, I'm just going to go ahead and call it gold because that's easily translatable but what if her hair looks more like another element not found on Earth?
Also, contractions. They don't exist in Kryptonian. Honorifics do though. But do I translate the honorifics or do I use the Kryptonian word because I'm going to use that word later anyway when they're on Earth.
Also, also, Kryptonians have very large personal spaces. When Jor-el and Lara hold hands, I feel like I'm writing Edwardian porn.
