*sighs*

Now that I'm depressed, I'm just going to watch that SDCC Smallville Season 9 clip again. And have coffee.

As a Caucasian America, and as much as I love M. Night, I have to say that you're entirely right...

EPIC!FAIL!!!!!

No way should the casting have gone to an entirely white lead cast! Dude, so wrong.

Says who? It's bullshit, no matter how they try to play it off. I certainly hope all the Avatar fans avoid it like the plague. It's just.... Self-serving bastards.

It's so hard, eh? Sometimes, they get it SO RIGHT and others, it's EPIC FAIL.

That was the best version of the trailer I've ever seen.

I'm still going to watch this movie though, probably several times. I love Avatar that much. But I'm not going to love it, that's for sure.
I really want them to make Book 2 though, I wanna see who are they going to cast to play Toph, Azula and Mai

Probably more white kids. Let's go with London and France this time. :P

You're free to do with your money what you will, of course. I'm just saddened that your love for an obviously amazing story will further racial idiocy like this.

I will watch it, but I'm still waiting to be convinced if I'll watch it on a theatre or I'll download it... probably the later, I hate the casting as well.

And I really need to buy the series. It'll probably be part of my holiday splurge.

Re: Memoirs of a Geisha -- especially understanding the history between China and Japan, they really should've know better but AT LEAST they were East Asian. I suppose it was all right to be an all Asian cast because the Asian female lead was a subjugated prostitute and the Asian males were all bastards. Heaven forbid Hollywood portrays Asians as empowered and good.

re: Pete Ross being black, and for that matter Lana Lang being Chinese-Dutch -- This I have less of a problem about because it doesn't matter. It sounds contradictory but just follow. Yes, SV!Pete was a token black guy but they've had to throw that in because there are so few people of colour in the media. The creators here were TRYING albeit in a really tired, old way. The whole intent of Avatar was to bring to to light Asian (and there are Inuits in Asia;:) mythologies and create more space to Asian & Native American faces in the media. To so blatantly disregard THAT is racism ( ... )

*headdesking*

This fails SO FUCKING HARD. I love and adore Avatar. And so I despair since I first heard about... about THIS.

There was also an occurence of 'we're looking for background characters, if you're belgian, show up in lederhosen, korean, show up in a kimono'. FAIL!!!

Yeah, it's totally saddening. relegated to background characters when the whole POINT was to put them in the spotlight.

The big FAIL is to mix everything as long as it looks colorful in the background.

This argument has been going on longer than you think

There's also a ton of people affiliated with this that have made extremely enlighting arguments about the whole subject. If you protest this, please contribute to the cause.

See this is why I can't bring myself to see this movie, or even get remotely excited about it. To get so many of the details right and then to cast like they did. Dude! I mean it's just so wrong... The thing that really frustrates me is that there are so many amazing asian actors out there who they could have cast and grrr.... arghg..... See! ? I'm too aggravated to even fully articulate the epic fail on M. Nights part. I'm going to follow your example and watch the SV season 9 preview until my blood pressure goes back to normal.

I'm not going to watch it. I will, however, spend money getting all three or four seasons of the canon material on DVD.

See, now that? Sounds like plan. I may do the same.
