I've been toying with this for a while, ever since I wrote
Elemental. The story's original draft had a major scene regarding Rogue's taste in music vs. Remy's. Also, as part of the research, I wanted to know what kind of music each of the Summers' liked; no reason, just part of the background.
List 9-12 songs that would be on the Party Shuffle of your favourite character(s)'s mp3 player. These have to be songs that the CHARACTER would like, not songs you associate with them, unless the two coincide. Give a short explanation why the song is there, eg) favourite band, nostalgic reasons, something someone uploaded as a joke, etc.
This is going to get very long for me so I'm going to split it up.
MARVEL
Remy: Remy's a little difficult because of the subtle differences I've made up between Prodigals/comics!Remy-- who likes more country/rock-- and Elemental!Remy-- who likes more rap/Top 40/dance. This was more a matter of finding songs that have the same general theme, not necessarily all the same genre.
Sexy songs = songs he listens to prominently because they encourage dancing. Not just any dancing, of course; sweaty, grinding, heart-rate-inflating dancing. Remy really lives in his body and one of the things his body really likes is sex.
"Bad Things" by Jace Everett
"Sexy Back" by Justin Timberlake
"Temperature" by Sean Paul
"I Touch Myself" by Jack Off Jill
"Save a Horse, Ride a Cowboy" by Big and Rich -- Hey, he's got a sense of humour about his nymphomania.
"Wait (The Whisper Song)" by the Ying Yang Twins -- Okay, so Remy didn't really listen to the lyrics when he first heard this; he just thought it was great for dancing. Then Scott freaked out because of the incredibly explicit/sexist lyrics and, yeah, that bugged him but frankly Scott's reaction to the song was even MORE entertaining than the song so he kept it in
Sappy songs = Deep down inside, past the flirting and the too-damn-cool facade, Remy really is a romantic. There are a lot of songs he associates with being in love, specifically, being in love with Rogue. They're not necessarily happily romantic songs though.
"Come Back to Bed" by John Mayer
"Sway" by Anita Kelsey
"Ordinary People" by John Legend
"Wicked Game" by Chris Isaak
"Iris" by Goo Goo Dolls
Personal anthem
"Behind Blue Eyes" by The Who -- If anyone asks, his brother (Henri or Alex) uploaded it and he just hasn't gotten around to erasing it. While this may be true, the song stayed on the iPod because it really speaks to that part of himself that he tries very, very hard to disguise.
Scott: Scott likes 3 bands-- U2, Radiohead and Coldplay. 90% of the songs in his iPod are by U2, Radiohead and Coldplay. As far as he cares, those are only musicians in the world.
"Sunday Bloody Sunday" by U2
"Sweetest Thing" by U2 -- This wasn't at the top of his favourites list until he played it for Jean after missing yet another anniversary.
"How to disappear completely" by Radiohead -- This was the anthem of his youth. He won't admit to being this emo but the moment Scott heard this song, he was addicted to Radiohead. There was just so much in the instrumental and the lyrics that summarised his life.
"Karma Police" by Radiohead.
"The Saints are Coming" by U2 ft. Green Day
"Viva la Vida" by Coldplay -- He will turn this up in the car as loudly as possible and bop his head. It's kind of cute.
"42" by Coldplay
The few that aren't by those 3 bands were uploaded by Jean, Alex or Remy.
"Ventura Highway" by America -- Alex uploaded this as a "Roadtrip mix." The roadtrip had a lot of memories attached to it so Scott hasn't erased it.
"Shelter" by Ray LaMontagne -- Jean uploaded this because she's a major Ray LaMontagne fan and she wanted a little something to listen to if they only happened to have his iPod around. And it's not terrible, really. They may or may not have had sex in the backseat to this song.
"White and Nerdy" by Weird Al Yancovic -- Remy uploaded this in his iPod as a joke but Scott liked it so much he uploaded a whole bunch of other Weird Al songs.
Rogue: Rogue actually has a very varied musical taste; she's not sure if this is because of all the people she's absorbed or her own personality quirk. She doesn't really mind though because it means no matter what, there's always something good on. She tends to like female musicians and rock/rock-influences.
"My Body is a CAge" by Arcade Fire
"Celebrity Skin" by Hole
"Fidelity" by Regina Spektor
"Maps" by the Yeah Yeah Yeahs
"Mississippi Queen" by Mountain -- Bobby uploaded this on her player after he discovered Guitar Hero III. It's enough of a head-banging song that she keeps it on for variety but it's not a favourite.
"Blower's Daughter" by Damien Rice.
"In These Shoes" by Kirsty Maccoll
"Wicked Game" by Stone Sour -- Coincidentally, Remy likes the original version. They discovered this song separately though. Rogue prefers this version because, according to her, it's a little less whiny.
"Chasing Cars" by Snow Patrol -- This song represents everything Rogue finds romantic.
DC
Clark: Doesn't actually listen to music. It's too much peripheral noise and distracts him from all the other things he's multitasking. When he wants to relax, he kind of lets the whole world "play" in the background.
Lois: Lois loves visceral music. Anything that elicits some deep emotion than can be translated into a) headbanging, b) spontaneous karaoke, c) a truly sweaty workout, or d) all of the above.
"B.Y.O.B." by System of a Down
"Pour Some Sugar on Me" by Def Leppard
"Wanted Dead or Alive" by bon Jovi -- Shut up. It's the ONE good Bon Jovi song, dammit.
"I'm Fucking Matt Damon" by Sara Silverman & Matt Damon -- Lois had this song memorised by the end of the first day she discovered it. She especially likes to belt out "on the bed, on the floor, on the towel, by the door, in the tub, in the car, up against the minibar" while vacuuming.
"I Want To Break Free" by Queen
"Paranoid" by Black Sabbath
Then there's Lois' romantic side.
"Alone" by Heart -- YES, HEART, GODDAMMIT. HEART RULES AT EVERYTHING, in Lois' very-not-so-humble-opinion.
"Love in an Elevator" by Aerosmith
"I Believe in a Thing Called Love" by The Darkness
"Whole Lotta Love" by Led Zeppelin
Kon: Kon may be more sex-obsessed than Remy. Maybe. It's a toss-up, really.
"Rockstar" by Nickelback -- Tim gave this to him as a joke. Kon takes it as a joke. Kind of. Which led to the discovery of
"Figured You Out" by Nickelback -- This song makes Clark wince.
"Pink" by Aerosmith" -- Lois introduced Kon to Aerosmith. Then Kon discovered what "pink" meant. Yeah.
"Darling Nikki" by the Foo Fighters
"Lick" by Joi
Kon actually has a burgeoning political streak thanks to input from Lois, Tim, and metal. He introduced Lois to nu-metal/progressive rock.
"Dragula (the Matrix remix)" by Rob Zombie
"American Idiot" by Green Day
"Chop Suey" by System of a Down
Personal anthems
"Moth" by Audioslave -- Don't tell Clark or anyone else but this is how Kon feels about being Superboy sometimes.
"Say It To Me Now" by Glen Hansard -- Don't let anyone AT ALL but when Clark and Lois dragged him to watch Once, Kon actually really, really, really liked it. He even liked the music for all that it had very little to do with sex or headbanging. He can't figure it out; maybe it's one of those maturing things.
