Fics Written This Year
I thought I wrote primarily multi-chapter fics but apparently, this was also the year of the ficathon. By that I mean, I actually answered all 2 ficathons I joined. This marks a new phase of my fannish life, the Phase of Follow-Through. This year also looks like The Year of DC. Poor Marvel-verse stayed on the backburner as the Smallville& DCU bunnies ate my soul. Let's see if they can catch up again in 2009

Best, Worst, Favourites, et cetera
Favorite(s) of the batch: "Bloodlines" is one favourite. It's my first Smallville fic and the first time I used the detailed outline. I'm just generally happy with how the story turned out. I literally threw up the first draft in 2 weeks; the rest of the month was editing and tweaking.
I'm also ridiculously proud of "Just Because Everything is Different, Doesn't Mean Anything Has Changed." I think
femgenficathon is one of the awesomest celebrations of female characters and both times I joined, the prompts managed to pull the best out of me.
Lastly, I have to throw out "Blame it on the Fedora." Yeah. XD
Best of the batch: That's a toss up between "Bloodlines" and "Just Because Everything is Different..." I feel like those two are the best crafted in terms of the actual writing, the plot and the themes.
Most under-appreciated by the universe: Nothing really. I'm pretty sure the feedback I received is proportional to the effort I put into writing it. Maybe "Bloodlines" didn't get as many reviews as, say, "Blame it on the Fedora." *L* That said, it was recced in
crack_van so, y'know massive acknowledgment there so I can't complain.
Most fun to write: Guh. What? I have no idea. I have fun with all of them. "Blame it on the Fedora" had a fun origin. "Bloodlines" drove me utterly nuts but I enjoyed every minute of it. "Every Season between December and May" had me cackling as I wrote it because it was crack.
Sexiest fic: Toss up between "A Different Sort of Way" and "Blame it on the Fedora." It took more than 10 years of ficcing but I finally wrote pr0n. Woot!
"Holy crap, that's wrong even for you" fic: "A Different Sort of Way" because I don't usually see Lois or Clark's relationship with Kon as anything but parental. Also "Every Season between December and May" because... well... it's crack.
Fic that shifted my own perceptions of the characters: Again, "A Different Sort of Way."
Hardest fic to write: I stared at the prompt for "Just Because Everything is Different..." for almost 2 months before anything clicked.
Biggest disappointment: "After Auden" looked so good in my head but I don't think I translated it to my satisfaction. I mean, it's fine, but I'm not crowing about it. I'm disappointed in general about my X-Men output. I really thought I'd be half-way through the first draft of "Azimuth" at least but "Sunshine" just kept eating my life. Oh and school. ;)
Biggest surprise: "Five Conceptions of Oracle" garnered a lot more praise than the time I put into it. *L* Really, it flowed up in about 5 minutes, I went over typos myself and done.
Most telling fic: I'm not sure what this means. Most telling of my own life experiences and/or personality? Maybe "Just Because Everything is Different..." because it encompasses all the themes I'm interested in right now-- the strength of extended family, fighting against subtle racism and the importance of community. Oh, I am a product of my environment, oh yes I am. *L*
Year-end squee: "Sunshine" is finished! "Azimuth" detailed outline is finished! *boogies*
What's next: "Azimuth" definitely, FINALLY. After that, I want to do an X-Men Movieverse/Smallville crossover BECAUSE SCOTT SHOULD NEVER EVER DIE EVER. *cough* However,
lilly_pilly started a fic like this already so I'm going to have to do something different.
I also kind of want to do a Martha Kent political-intrigue fic questioning the reasons why she was appointed to the position of Junior Senator so quickly. Fourthly, and by no means lastly, I want to do a Rogue-centric series of noir vignettes, post-X3. It'll deal with the real fall-out of X3-- faulty cure resulting power backlashing (a la "Just Because Things are Different..."), political manoeuvrings and deals with the devil to maintain mutant freedoms.
Works in Progress
SunshineCharacters: Lois Lane, Superman (Clark Kent, Kal-El), Conner Sullivan + cast of dozens
For the past eighteen months, Lois, Clark and Conner have become a family. But now there is a way-- a very slight, possibly dangerous way-- for Lois to be pregnant with Clark's child. A family drama arcing over two years showing how sometimes, completion can be impossible to acquire. (The text is finished but the images and the pages have yet to be uploaded.)
SNOWBIRD
Characters: Oliver Queen, Roy Harper; w. Clark Kent, Lois Lane, Chloe Sullivan
-- A Smallville version of "Snowbirds Don't Fly" about Roy Harper's (Speedy I/ Arsenal/ Red Arrow) addiction.
Fannish resolution: I will comment on fics RIGHT AFTER reading them instead of waiting until the weekend/ end of the month/ end of the year. Still not done leaving reviews. argh!
