Shiny Happy Geography

Sep 14, 2008 11:30

I suck at geography. Our first two years in Chez Katt, I could barely navigate out of the house and oh, I wish I was joking.

If only Yakko Warner had been my social studies teacher:

Here's Rob Paulsen, the voice of Yakko, Pinky & Dr. Scratchnsniff, doing the Nations of the World TOTALLY WITHOUT A SCRIPT.

This is actually on my harddrive, and every single time I watch it I glee a little and swear I'm going to learn it from memory.

My friend, Riley, saw it once. Next time I saw her she could do the flipping thing from memory.
(I HATE HER. In a loving, friend-like way.)

However, Rob Paulsen doing this makes my DAY. Thank you for sharing.

I'd never heard that before, but I am such a geography nerd that my first thought was "But lots of those aren't even countries!"

Aw, shucks, really? Even considering it was made in the mid-90's?

See, I can forgive Yugoslavia (now 5 or 6 countries, depending who you ask), Czechoslovakia (now Czech Republic and Slovakia), both Yemens (now one Yemen), Zaire (now the Democratic Republic of Congo) and Kampuchea (now known as Cambodia again) because of the date.

But Greenland, San Juan, Guam, Sumatra, Borneo, Dahomey (Benin since the 1970s), Madagascar, Mahore, Cayman and Abu Dhabi aren't countries. Tibet, Hong Kong and Palestine sort of are, and Transylvania gets a pass for being cool. /pedantic tart

He did that whole thing without a script? **staggers** And here I thought it was just an amazing scripted song. It's always been one of my favourite Animaniacs bits, but I almost think it's better watching the actor do it Yakko's voice and still be singing the whole thing in 2005!

I do recall that by the time it aired, it already has some inaccuracies simply because when it came out, there were several parts of the world were having some political upheavals. But I do love me some Animaniacs. Yakko's got one with the U.S. States and their capitals. As far as I know, it's still accurate.
