Another boring week... I didn't work much... so... ummmmm... I really can't remember how I passed the time this week. Lots of anime and tv, I suppose... and sleep, haha. I got another DVD review posted on my website, so at least I accomplished something. We're hoping to get some more attention from the big-name companies. I told the executives that I was determined to get us into bed with ADV, Bandai and Geneon... sounds saucy, doesn't it?
We're having problems with the Katsucon Press Passes. Apparently they feel like they have enough "internet media outlets" and thus don't want to comp us. Of course, our PR guy was flaming mad since we're one of the biggest sites out there. We're going to try to at least get a discounted rate since they made us wait so long.
In other news... it's been nearly 5 months since I've seen a movie in the theaters, and then somehow, I ended up going to TWO movies this week. I saw The Departed with Colette. It was absolutely great... though very graphic. I've never seen such realistic gunshots before. The movie was long, but that just makes it worth the money. And since it takes place in Boston, I was entertained by all the real-world locations they used. They showed South Station, the Red Line, the Dept of Mental Health (though they called it the State Police Building... I dunno, maybe there are some MSP offices in there) and plenty of locales around Southie. Plenty of mention of places like 95 and 128 and the Dedham Mall, plus the accents, though ridiculously thick at times, were pretty good overall.
I also took my mom out to see Casino Royale. It was a decent movie in itself, but a pretty poor James Bond movie. As someone who's seen many many 007 films, I was quite disappointed. Things that were wrong:
- the first scene is always supposed to be spectacular with tons of stunts, gunfights and explosions... this had one fist-fight and that was it
- the opening had a good song and interesting animation, but traditionally they featurer the silhouettes of sexy women... this only had Bond
- the villain is supposed to be comically evil, like ridiculously over the top or insane with world domination desires... this baddie was "evil" in more in a political/business sense, not campy enough at all
- there was should be an evil "Bond Girl"... there was a girl, but she was good through most of it and other things that are spoilerific
- no Q!!!!... what?!?!? no gadgets!?!?!? no cool car!?!?!? OMG!!!11!!!1!
- No Moneypenny... lately she's just been around for comic relief, but she still needs to make an appearance now and then
- "Never let them see you bleed"... I've noticed that in Every Single James Bond Movie that they never show blood, yet this one was full of it
- Bond works alone... there was some guy following him around the whole time... I STILL don't know who the f*ck he was
Oh well, Daniel Craig (the Blond Bond) was pretty good, so I have no qualms about him and Dame Judi Dench did a great job as M once again. Like I said, I'm disappointed... they totally ignored the whole formula that's been in place since Ian Flemming and Albert R. Broccoli got together to start the series (though with the absense of Mr. Broccoli (RIP), it may be a possible explanation as to why things have changed... though that wouldn't explain The World Is Not Enough and Die Another Day)... oh well.
k, I'm tired and thus done typing, cya lata and have a nice holiday!!
