I'm 27 now. I don't know what's worse: the fact that no one believes me when I tell them that I'm 27... or just the fact that I AM 27. >___<
Tonight was fun. I swung by the school to pick up Naoko, Asuka, and Saki, then we took the shuttle to the D Line trolley station, walked a few blocks to the B Line, then jumped on a Green Line train. I had to lug all the AB prizes with me, not fun to do while trying not to fall over on the train. The girls gave me a card and some cookies they made for me. A very sweet gesture, especially since the card has personalized notes from each of them in there. We met with Vu at the Harvard Avenue stop.... heh heh heh, I introduced him by saying the following: "kochira wa watashi no tomodachi, Vu-chan." LAFFOS were had by all. The girls will forever refer to him as "Vu-chan." I love it.
Lupe couldn't make it because, as always, drama follows Lupe around... this time in the form of the po-po towing her car. D'oh. But Melissa came. She met up with us at the karaoke... ummm... place? I don't know what to call it. Anyway... she made me a hamburger cake, haha. I didn't have my camera with me, but the girls got photos of it. I'll have to ask them to email me some copies.
The karaoke singing went well. I tried a good mix of Japanese ("Furare Kibun de Rock'n'Roll" (Tom-Kat vers) and "God Knows" (acapella.... booooo)). We all did a group rendition of "hare hare yukai". Asuka and I were on vocals, Melissa and Naoko were on dance, Saki was on camera, Vu was on audio. It was probably the most fun song we did. All my English songs failed cause I hate the sound of my voice. In retrospect, we shoulda cranked the music volume so I wouldn't have been so distracted by my voice, but then that would have just hindered my ability to hear Asuka, Naoko, and Saki sing. Asuka had some really beautiful songs. She attempted one in English, but the vocabulary seemed beyond her. Naoko did a song by the Carpenters that she performed beautifully. Saki did duets with the others, so I didn't get a good sense of her singing ability. Vu failz by being a moocher and not singing.
The night ended pretty late. I lose all sense of time when I'm with those girls... plus being in an interior room with no outside light source makes you forget how late it is so easily. We ducked out just before we hit the 3 hour mark. It still cost us $117 for 6 people... which I don't think adds up right by what's on the website. Oh well... $20 a person. We walked back to the trolley stop, but we split up from there as we had to jump into a taxi to get back to Jamaica Plain. 4 mile ride for 10 minutes costs $15, not counting tip, JSYK. Cabbies must get paid by time and not distance cause this guy drove painfully slow. Oh well, kept Asuka from getting motion sickness at least.
What else?
- Celtics won the championship. I watched all 6 games of the finals.
- I'm working a shit ton of overtime again
- Last day of classes is this coming Tuesday. I'll still go weekly to see the girls for dinner.
- Amanda is coming up from TX next week. We're going to the beach with the SFC2 girls on Saturday. No Vu, you're not invited.
- My bank FUBARed my debit card... and when I say FUBAR, I seriously mean they fucked it up beyond any repair!! Nice to find out they mistakenly deactivated my card as I'm standing in the middle of Brookline with $7 in my pocket. I had to call the home office and have them fix the problem ASAHP!!! They're sending me an emergency card on Friday... but I still don't know what I'm going to do about lunch tomorrow. I'm stuck at work until Joe relieves me in the afternoon. I may have to use my back-up credit card... if it's even still active, haha.
- Found a network group for Interac current and alumni ALTs. I've been talking to a newbie from Roxbury on AIM all week. We're gonna help eachother out as we go through all this bureaucratic nonsense. The company wants me at the Embassy sometime in the next few days to get my Certificate of Eligibility. I better remember to bring my passport!!!!!!!!!
- Alisha's in Germany now. Emails have slowed down a bit, but that can be expected when someone is in a new country.
- and because culture lessons are always fun... here are the "Words of the Day" from my SFC student so far:
-- "cool/color/collar/college" ... they swear they can't hear the difference between "color" and "collar"
-- "gross" (see: "Vu's face")
-- "motion sickness"
-- "sarcasm" (this comes up an awful lot, haha)
-- "cross-dresser"... not to be confused with "cosplayer", haha
-- "literal"... not to be confused with "liberal"
-- "have a child".... literally said as "make a baby"
oh Engrish... I love it so much. Interac doesn't even have to pay me... the laffos are payment enough ^____^
