I actually kept myself up last night being annoyed with this book I'm reading (or, listening to, rather). Ridiculous! I'm so close to the end now that I may as well stick it out, but the main character is just fairly annoying...she's spent the whole book sort of flailing her arms because things aren't the way she wants them and dreaming of being rescued without actually doing anything to make the best of it...she sort of just gets swept along from one thing to the next, and though she's often miserable it doesn't motivate her to do anything about it. It was all right initially because I figured this was part of the point - that at some point she wasn't going to undergo a personality change, but would perhaps experience some personal growth. But no! It turns out that she really is going to be rescued (by a man, it appears), and without actually doing anything is just going to fall into what she wanted after all. Ugh! I think I would have appreciated it more if she *didn't* get the guy, but instead got to a better place in her life by some actual agency of her own.
